In an attempt to help promote Staycations in Britain over Summer 2021, The BBC commison a revival of Holiday to air in late Spring, or have it as a segment on The One Show.

The chances of Holiday being revived is as likely as ITV commissioning Wish You Were Here, zilch.

Whilst it’s unlikely in the current climate, a programme that is subsided with product placement for a travel company on ITV would be more likely to be seen than Holiday, unless it’s used in a way of showing the public broadcaster helping to get the travel industry back on its feet when it’s time.

I'd love to see some of the old Holiday and Wish You Were Here shows. Some kind of show contrasting well known resorts then and now might be interesting to see.
Write that down in your copybook now.

Didn't they do this with a daytime version in the early 2000's? Mark Durden-Smith visiting resorts his mother Judith Chalmers had previously been to on Wish you were here?

Great idea for a further update though!

The official ThamesTV YouTube channel uploads a few episodes, quite an eye opener at how exotic the whole idea of international travel was.

Yes, this was "Wish You Were Here Now and Then" in 2008.

1. BBC One HD English Regions finally happening.

2. ITV HD on Freeview finally getting most/all of the ITV (sub-)regions not yet represented, reflecting what's already happening on Freesat/Sky/Virgin Media.

3. An alien spaceship with Elvis Presley on board landing on the Loch Ness monster's head during a snowstorm in August. (This is seemingly more likely than 1 and/or 2 happening before I reach state retirement age (I'm currently 40)). 😏
You f'coffee? ☕

The internet pretty much killed off the Holiday type programmes. Channel 5 attempted do one with Jane McDonald but it didn't do that well compared to the Cruising programmes.

There's still C4's Travelman at the quirky end of the scale. We suddenly remembered we were staying in the hotel on Maderia featured in that show, (once I'd fired up my VPN and logged into All4)

Thanks. That's one way around it.
My parents wanted to see one of the first episodes being repeated on Dave, and missed both the original and +1 repeat.

Ah, don't worry the whole series is on Prime. Go to Prime - 'programme currently not available' Oh, so that must be because of the UK/Ireland repeats on Dave.
So, head to Sky catch-up, and it's not on their either. Neither has some kind soul uploaded the full episode to YT ..

VPN and logging in from a different country, is one way this particularly 'aggressive' rights blocking issue by whoever it is that controls it.

Veering a bit further away from the topic here, but RTÉ just about kept No Frontiers going into the 2010s:

"What is two plus two?" "Rather more than three." "Yes, but can you be more specific?" "The Belgians."
