According to Tumble Tower's previous thread he has used these codes for over 20 years. Surely it would take others a long time to learn them, just as you did?
Probably why it is easier to say the whole channel name is because of branding - the channels teach you to remember their name. Once you have learnt it, it is vey hard to change.
The only channel name that is very long is O'ver'seas Prop'er'ty T'V (8 syllables) and it is very hard to shorten (unlike the UKTV channels where you can easily knock off four letters). Apart from that there is no common need to abbreviate channels. Unless there is a dire need for a universal coding system for broadcasting for short codes, I do not think this cumbersome code will ever get mainstream use.
I am not getting angry or insane because everyone else has tried, and failed.

I was trying to think of a channel longer than Overseas Property TV to say.
UKTVG2+1 matches it with 8 syllables, but you could be stupid about it and call it United Kingdom Television Gold + 1 hour (14 syllables I think) but thats probably cheating.

Its good to see someone posting something sensible. I'm not sure why other people are so angry. People have called for the thread to be locked and all sorts. Calm down everyone.
Anybody else see potential for a hillarious sequel to Asa's April Fools gag from a few years ago where all mention of BBC were swapped to say ITV and vice versa?

I don't text channel names, and when I do I leave plenty of space for the channel name.
I find it perfectly easy to say "UKTV Style" and "BBC News 24" because I don't have to translate them in my head. Which I do have to do if I'm told about a programme on "B6". I have to arrange a list of the channels, arrange them in EPG order, swap two of them around, then translate them into your stupid codes, and then
finally
pick the required channel from the list.
You'd be better off just saying the channel name in French.
For your information, B6 = CBeebies.
You say you have to swap two channels around. Which two? Which TV platform are you using?

The way they're arranged in my Virgin EPG is
BBC1/B1
BBC2/B2
BBC3/B3
BBC4/B4
BBC News 24/B7
BBC Parliament/B8
CBBC/B5
CBeebies/B6
Your arrangement is
BBC1/B1
BBC2/B2
BBC3/B3
BBC4/B4
CBBC/B5
CBeebies/B6
News 24/B7
BBC Parliament/B8
As far as I'm aware this makes no sense on Freeview or Sky either. So there.
