I've never heard of any person in my life say B2 for BBC Two it's either:
2, Two, BBC2, BBC Two or Beeb 2
Actually my mate calls all terrestrial channels by their number, because he grew up in the world of multi-channel TV. So when he says "Channel 1" I know he means BBC1, obviously "Channel 3" is ITV1, but for the rest he uses the names they have on screen, although he can't get over saying UK Gold instead of UKTV....etc.
There must surely be other groups of channels which are owned by single broadcasters, just like EMAP own several channels, and Virgin own several channels. Does anyone know what belongs to whom?
Ever heard of Google?
Yes Neil Jones, I've heard of Google (and other search engines, e.g. Yahoo, Ask Jeeves). What's that got to do with TV channel coding?
Neil Jones posted:
Anyway two things to screw your pointless little list up (but you can do the legwork): Ideal World is owned by a company which you would need to put in your I section but you can't so there.
Also the God channel can't go under G if you're classifying channels by ownership - it should actually go under E or maybe C. Oh dear, they've gone too. Also technically MTV and Nickelodeon channels are owned by the same company and should go under V. Oh dear, that's gone too.
OK let's start with the
God TV
family of channels:
God TV Channels (broadcaster code G)
G1 = GOD Channel
G2 = GOD Europe
According to the God TV website, God TV is the trading name of the Angel Foundation. Therefore if you feel G (for God TV) is inappropriate as the broadcaster code, the only alternativie is A for Angel Foundation. That blows your theory about E or C out of the window. Why E or C for the God TV channels? As you already know, C is already used for Chart Show TV channels, and E is already used for EMAP channels. What's God TV or Angel Foundation got to do with Chart Show TV or EMAP?
Now let's move on to the MTV / Nickelodeon debate. Here are the channels which actually have MTV in their titles:
M1 = MTV One
M2 = MTV Two
MB = MTV Base
MD = MTV Dance
MF = MTV Flux
MH = MTV Hits
According to Wikipedia, the above channels are all owned by
MTV Networks
. This is why the codes I have devised for them all start with broadcaster code M (for MTV Networks). Logical enough, isn't it?
The following channels are also owned by MTV Networks, and thus have also been assigned, by me, codes starting with broadcaster code M. Unfortunately the code for VH1 is as long as the channel name itself!
How right you are Neil Jones in saying that the MTV and Nickelodeon channels are owned by the same company. The Nickelodeon channels, listed below, are also owned by MTV Networks.
N1 = Nickelodeon
NJ1 = Nick Jr.
NJ2 = Nick Jr. 2
NR = Nick Replay
NT = Nicktoons
If I were to code them starting with M (MTV Networks), the codes would have to be:
MN1 = Nickelodeon
MNJ1 = Nick Jr.
MNJ2 = Nick Jr. 2
MNR = Nick Replay
MNT = Nicktoons
This would be to show that they are (i) all part of MTV Networks, (ii) part of the subgroup Nickelodeon, and (iii) uniquely identifiable. I couldn't use MT for Nicktoons as that would clash with TMF. On top of which some of these are a little long, e.g. MNJ1 for Nick Jr. Rather I think it's easier to treat the Nickelodeon subgroup as a broadcaster in its own right, and start them with broadcaster code
N = Nickelodeon
.
Like an attention seeking child, the best think to do with this troll is to ignore. Even when he brings this back up after it has fallen down the forum, just ignore. Let him post to himself and eventually he'll see what a gigantic ass he has made of himself.
I've been reluctant to close this thread because technically it's not breaking any rules.
It should be very clear to Tumble Tower that given the 5 day gap between the last post and his new one yesterday, that very few people care about these channel codes. To be honest, if he wishes to use them in everyday posts then that is up to him but I doubt anyone else will.
As I say, I won't close it but if there's any length of time like there has been without a post, then the topic starter comes along with another one, then it will be treated as them trying to "bump" the thread and action will be taken.
I'm very tempted to quote Tumbly Wumbly's latest post and change the God TV website link to the REAL one (see signature), but perhaps I won't.
My link to the God TV website is the REAL one. I took the URL directly from the address bar whilst looking at the site's home page, i.e. the one with the map of the world from which you navigate to the relevant sub-site.
Asa pointed out about a five day gap between posts. Back along this thread saw a six day gap between posts. What's an unreasonable period of no posts after which any subsequent posts would be seen as "bumping"? Two weeks? A month?

Due to TT's activity on here pretty much being confined to weekends, I am now totally convinced that the rest of the week he spends in a padded cell.
and I am somewhat sorry for you. The choice by Tumbler to use the word 'tower' in his name must mean that some outsiders think that you two are related. We know that isn't true, but the general idea is that Tumble Weed is detracting from your reputation as a witty, funny, entertaining and intelligent (and sensible) person.
