TV Channel Codes

I feel bad. At the end of April I launched a CBeebies presentation thread, to discuss idents and presentation on the CBeebies channel. It turned out a rather quiet thread, and by late June I suggested extending its scope to encompass BOTH BBC children's channels: CBBC and CBeebies.

Unfortunately, the thread CBeebies Presentation then suddenly metamorphosed into a discussion about TV channel codes. Several pages of notes on that appeared, until last weekend when Asa (Site Admin) finally posted the following note:

Asa posted:
Please, no more discussion about channel shorthand codes unless it appears in a dedicated thread where other members can choose to post in (or not).

Posts should be comprehensible and if shorthand like B1 makes a post more difficult to read then, to me, it's defeating the object of maximising the number of people who want to read it.

"C4" and "C5" are widely used and understood abbreviations, "DHD" isn't. Simple as that.

Asa

Probably for the best. Could you or one of the other Mods move the last few pages of this thread in to the new thread when it has been created? I was going to create it but I think its only right that Tumble Tower creates it.

So here goes, as requested by Asa and davidlees, here's TV Forum's OFFICIAL thread on TV Channel Codes. Is there any possibility that pages 3 to 9 inclusive can be moved by the mods from the current CBeebies Presentation thread into this one?

The CBeebies Presentation thread could subsequently be retitled CBBC and CBeebies Presentation, and used to comment on CBBC and CBeebies idents, announcements, trailers etc.

What is the latest news, Mr. Tower?

Have you thought any more about the 'H' for high definition problem? I think the best code for high definition would be 'DH'. This stands for 'Definition: High'. So, you could have (maybe in the future) 4CDH which is obviously Channel 4HD.

I don't think you can use 'H' for high definition as it is already used for other things.

The thing is now there is an "official" thread, those who are not interested in such a thing (i.e. the majority") don't have to post and the thread will just go down and down into the vaults of the forum. If he decides to update the thread and nobody replies then hopefully he might get the message.

Simple really just saves keeping this thread alive for sake of people moaning about the content of the thread making it stay on page 1 of this forum.

Well for example UH = UKTV History (U = UKTV, H = History).

Well said. I also notice that all the people who complained in the last thread haven't exactly rushed to discuss CBeebies presentation.

I think some people are just jealous of Tumble Tower (TT) and his massive compilation of channel codes (massive COCC).
