How did it happen? (December 2019)

I remember the actual closure of Setanta was quite sudden, even though their problems had been ongoing and well publicised for a few weeks.

The announcement that the channels were ceasing was only made that afternoon and Setanta Sport News closed not long after at about 5. Interesting to see what was going on behind the two presenters, lots of people milling around, picking up coats and bags, chatting etc. All now, sadly out of a job

This is quite a lengthy video, but comes from 26 years ago, when Screensport finally closed, following the Eurosport takeover. Interestingly, one of the initial shareholders in Screensport was WH Smith.

This also taken from a time when WHSmith TV’s other channel, Lifestyle had closed down. Whilst it was described as a merger effectively it was a Eurosport takeover as the Screensport frequency was relinquished as a result. This being not too long after Eurosport had to seek new owners as a result of Sky ditching its interest after it merged/bought BSB.

Good grief. How did WHS-TV get away with broadcasting such drivel for nearly 8 years? Did they buy their programmes at a 'car-boot-sale'?

You clearly don't live in an area served by local TV

To be fair, most people who are served by it are probably unaware they are.

At least they weren’t trying to flog you a £1 bar of Galaxy chocolate after every show.

That seems a bit anti-climatic.

It mostly is these days, channels come and go without anyone even noticing and little fanfare.

I do remember the Shop At Bid closedown video being online at some point around the closure. Basically just cut with a glitch to the technical fault slide and that annoying music loop.

I am pretty sure that no such video ever existed.

ITV shills McCain's oven fries into every segment of Emmerdale : P They also did Milkyway for CITV's preschool strand back in 2000. I'm sure there's been a Galaxy promo in the past - but memory escapes me what it was for.

Anyway back to channel closedowns. An interesting case is the move from Fox Kids to Jetix and finally to current Disney XD

After Disney brought out Fox Kids in most regions, they rolled out a gradual rebranding to Jetix. Initially Jetix ran as a block on the channel, but eventually trails began to be run to announce between ad breaks that the channel would soon become Jetix full time.

During that time they actually animated a whole bunch of promo's featuring the logo as a character used during the block phase and during the channels lifetime.

I wish I could find the actual short promo but it seems to have dropped off youtube. It had nice bouncy music.

Anyway, eventually I guess the contract on a lot of the Fox era shows began to run out or Disney just decided to gear it more as a non-premium Disney channel so it eventually became Disney XD. Video does exist of that final switchover.

Jexit manages to squeeze in one final big promo with a bunch of showcase idents and then puts the logo to bed before XD starts up.
