Did Thames actually put anything out that day given it's strongly hinted Crystal Palace was off?
I lived near Crystal Palace in 1987 and the power was most definitely off until the afternoon.
Crystal Palace (the transmitter) was definitely on at that time (at least for BBC 1), Hannington was RBS'ing BBC 1 from there, from at least 6:30am, which is when I put the TV on. Rowridge was dead (and remained so for all four channels until about 20:00hrs). BBC 1 was the only channel Hannington was carrying in the morning. When I got home again at 18:00hrs, it was carrying BBC 2 too. It wasn't until 20:00hrs when TVS and C4 popped up on there, which was when their RBL feed Rowridge came back on line. Back then neither TVS or C4 had any RBS back up at Hannington
No idea if ITV and C4 were active in the morning from CP though

And of course the strike ended a day later. From then on the staff were locked out.
