There was a lot more to it than that.

You might want a read of http://web.archive.org/web/20021211210440/www.the-234.com/part1.htm
It's an old website called The 234 which told the story of the strike from the point of view of those fired. The original website has gone but it seems to all be on archive.org

After the birth of her first two sons, Diamond was eased back from daily broadcasting onto the weekly programme "Diamond on Sunday". One noted edition in 1989 came from the Berlin Wall as it fell, after Diamond fought with station bosses to cover the world-impact story.[citation needed] Those in charge of production at TV-am did not appear to believe the issue significant and Diamond booked her own air tickets to Berlin and commandeered a satellite dish to broadcast live with the British MP Gerald Kaufmann as the East German government collapsed.[citation needed][7] Despite plaudits, the incident brought her into conflict with the TV-am management.[citation needed] This coincided with the broadcaster David Frost, returning from an unsuccessful foray into American television with the CBS programme Inside Edition and claiming his right, as a founder director of TV-am, to be re-instated to the Sunday slot. Diamond left the station after a legal dispute over the issue. Shortly afterwards TV-am lost its licence to broadcast (History of ITV).

Is that True?

I'm currently reading 'Treachery?: Power Struggle at T. V.-A. M.' by Michael Leapman. It's an excellent account of the creation of TV-am and it's first year in business.

No - Mike Morris and several other senior TV-am people were in Berlin at the time with her. She notes in her autobiography that Gyngell gave her expenses to buy certain outfits for the coverage while there. Inc. the famous red coat she wore as the wall came down.

The part about Frost is correct.
