Turner eyes rescue deal for TruTV

The Channel is still a mess, and it seem the viewing figures are not matching up with that the channel wishes to push.

Look at its facebook page and its RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE which is pushed big time, another show Fear Thy Neighbor doesnt even chat, and the same can be said for the week before.

Probably goes on to show that regardless of the Freeview effect, content is king. Perfectly illustrated in the past where we had the likes of lame-duck channels such as UKTV Bright Ideas, Ftn and Nuts TV.

Even by Freeview standards, the ratings are dire. Even I'm seeing the likes of YourTV and Blaze perform much better with their top programme ratings surpassing that of TruTV (YourTV's top show charting at 100k, Blaze at 72k).

Sony must be taking note of this - either a revitalisation of content for the channel or entirely replacing it with a channel that has better content.

Content is king. There have to be thinking about replacing the channel with Tru crime, ( im sure that on the local bandwith isnt it? ) its limted access and still get far better ratings than tru tv. Of course there could just sign up the best shows to the other channels.

Having looked at the True Crime figures, it's a bit astounding. How does a channel confined to the Local mux manage to get better ratings than one that is easily available to 90% of the population?

Logically speaking, much of the TruTV content could easily be ploughed to the Sony channels. However, their ad sales deal with Turner is holding it back by the by.

What the ad sale deal? how long does it last?

It wasn't disclosed how long it will last, but when Sony bought TruTV, they had to agree terms with Turner over ad sales.

I would be surprised if it was more than six months, but would there be allowed to just merge it with Tru Crime but let Tuner deal with ad sales untill is runs out?

I may be wrong, but they would let the ad sales deal last before disposing of the TruTV channel in favour of True Crime.

It will all be down to profits, if tru crimes will make money money overall, and taking the ad sales out of the hands of sky then I doubt there would care.

Those ratings are very misleading, as up until that week TruTV was getting a higher audience share than True Crime every week, but a sudden scheduling change replacing most of the crime related shows with more of what TruTV started with hasn't clicked with viewers yet, so they are clearly giving the original format one more go before deciding to give up and turn it into True Crime +1 or something else.

Again this seems to have gone cold, it's now six months later and still no changes.

Looking at the BARB figures for TruTV ending 2nd July, America's Got Talent had 184k.
