I come from Central Land and i told me that;

"This service has now been discontinued and for more information on ITV regional programmes, please go to www.itv.com.

It's mad! Mind you after the Carlton text service, the ITV text service was pretty lame

The channel identifer some TVs flash up with has changed in Meridianland from itv1 Meridian to just itv1 too

Rather than go over it again here, you'll find the technicalities behind this change here, Asa.

Well, if like C4, Teletext replaced the service with something similar to Teletext on 4 it would be a huge improvement. The C4 pages offer the best programme support guide of all the terrestrial channels.

I'd imagine one way or another, Teletext will get control of these pages. Hopefully this will lead to the service being improved across all 3 Teletext channels, with the core news and sport pages provided on C4 as well.

It be best if Teletext used page 100-399 to offer the same things across each channel, then varied pages from 400+.

Interestingly, on the Four Lanes ('Redruth') transmitter the channel ID is still 'ITV1 Westcountry' and Westcountry text is still up and running (although as reported yesterday, it's TV listings haven't been updated since new year's eve). Evidently someone forgot to pull the plug at Plymouth...

UTV's text "service" is still there, and it's just as shambolic as it's ever been. As far as I can tell only the blood donation session pages are ever updated, some haven't been touched in 5 years.

Theoretically, it would be somebody in London forgetting to pull the plug, which makes it odd that some regions have changed and others haven't.

As far as I know, the transmitters have been directly fed from the South Bank for best part of the last two years; unless there's an oddity in Westcountry's region in order to insert the local news sub-opts.

The normal system is feeds direct from the South Bank to all the transmitters, with no involvement in the old regional centres, except to send the local news UP the line to London for them to send it BACK to the transmitters.

The local teletext would, therefore, either be inserted in London or at the transmitters, with the editing previously done remotely from the regions.

Granada Text was rebranded as ITV1 text last year...

Throughout Christmas Granada have been plugging their `Christmas Careline` which is run with BBC North West and the North West EMAP Radio stations (Magic, Rock, City and Key) -

The careline trailers on both BBC Nw and Granada (and rolling ticker over parts of Corrie!) plugged a page on Ceefax (172) and a page on ITV1 text, (612) though the ITV text page never appeared.

Border still has its text service. Wonder if it will remain until someone turns up at Carlisle, after the holiday break, and pulls the plug?

One notable feature was that it never gave out transmitter info on page 690, with a caption reading "Details of interruptions to service in the Border Television region will appear here...." Border have never been a region for doing things by halves, I take it they assume that if someone switches on and there's a snowy screen, then they know that the transmitter's off air? Wink

How long had the itv1 reference been there? Tyne Tees Text had the 1998 look (based on 1996) right to the end, and the channel ID was showing "TYNE TEES TELEVISION". Still no notice or ID showing though...

I checked P600 on ITV1 Granada Text and their front page says that the service has stopped, but all of the pages are still available, but the Schedules have December 31st on P601 and December 27th on P602, but P601 states at the bottom that Granada Text will cease on the 1st.

Shame really as I would have to say that Granada had one of, if not the best Ancillary service on ITV.
