Speaking of strange games- ITV4 are showing Argentina v Croatia- held in Switzerland! No presenter either, for the 15 minutes of build up pre-match, it was just the commentator talking over some clips and graphics.

Interesting that... the BBC not being the host broadcaster and yet the match was being played just down the road from them at Loftus Road!
Yep...although to be fair a lot of London-based media companies are capable of broadcasting a football match.

It appears to be a very last-minute thing - the gfx indicate the BBC is not host broadcaster, one assumes it is the T&T home broadcaster. T&T are in England's group for the World Cup, it is a friendly between two minor nations so one would deduce it does not warrant prime BBC airtime.

Croatia are in England's qualifying group for Euro 2008, although I have to question why any Englishman would want to watch Croatia on ITV4 when their OWN COUNTRY is playing on BBC1??
FAO Edward. Sweden were playing the REPUBLIC OF Ireland
And here's another thing.....just count yourselves lucky that if you are English/Welsh/Scottish that your country's game is actually live on the BBC or Sky. We in Northern Ireland, on the other hand, have a sports broadcasting dept in the Beeb who couldn't give a rat's asre about the national team as we were only shown highlights of our game vs Estonia at 1120.
So, Northern Ireland fans without digital tv couldn't watch our wee country, live, but had the joy of being subjected to England vs Uruguay.

Us non-Murdochites are in the same boat - Sky nicked all Wales' home games last year, have exclusive rights to Scotland and Ireland games, and if you remember your wonderful 1-0 win over the English was repeated, IN FULL, right after the game.....something no other nation has ever done, even when Wales beat Germany and Italy, and drew with Argentina. Even England 5-1 Germany wasn't repeated in full, ever.

I know its not football, but when Wales beat Ireland to win the Six Nations Grand Slam last year, BBC ONE Wales repeated the match in full in place of Match of the Day that Saturday Night.
As for our wee Northern Ireland - David Healy's goal against England was shown practically EVERY NIGHT on BBC Newsline for about a fortnight afterwards! And it still pops up again sometimes! Aah what memories!
