[B]So why do all the regions (or BBC Nations) not return to Network at 1855. It does seem a bit of a waste to have the presenter sit there if all of the regions/nations are not going to return. Personally I think all should return to Network as the National Headlines are National and Regional ones are regional. Someone said recently that they think all regions should incorporate the National headlines into their own bulletins but isn't this just like abolishing the National News and having the regional presenters read it instead? If the regions which decide not to return to London at 1855 do so at 2225, there doesn't seem any justification in not doing it at the earlier time as well. It adds a bit of touch and reinforces the corporate image sought by the BBC in its national and regional make-over.

Also, did anyone see Hardtalk last night? Presented from the Liquid News studio with a black vale over the desk!
Cheers, Asa
Hardtalk moved from N6 to TC11 (Liquid News studio) onWednesdays over the election period. This was to allow the Six to record Peter Snow Election CSO sequences, without losing the time they might have needed to record other sequences (such as CSO elements for other reports)

Well before the 1855 summary a lot of regional programmes used to end with a headline sequence. Look East used a single regional headline and a single national headline normally ISTR.
The Nations programmes are supposed to be a bit more like the National News for their Nation, and also the Nations have their own presentation dept. They routinely start their programmes hard off the back of the Six, and stay split until the 1900 Network programme - if they are broadcasting it.
The difference between 1800 and 2200 is that the 1800 programme runs as a whole programme, with closing titles at 1830. The 1855 sits like a small separate summary at the end. The 2200 prog doesn't really finish before the opt, so to not return would look distinctly odd...
It is strange how different the One/Six/Ten regional models are...

Yeah but in all fairness, BBC Newsreaders don't get paid as much as ITN News
Casters
either. Aren't Kirsty Young and Sir Trevor into the millions? I do see where you are coming from though and Mr Dyke is going to have to be careful with his cost-cutting measures. I mean he has cut the staff meal allowance to a measly 6 pounds! (I am led to believe)

You have to remember, the nations have very large newsrooms which can also provide UK/World news headlines and do at the close of their bulletin in just the way that London does. But the nations, by not going back, have more time to cover their news. Which, in effect *is* national news as far as that nation is concerned. You will note that EVERYONE returns at the end of the 2225 opt as it's part of a seamless news bulletin. The 6 isn't as such. In England it's broken up with promos and an intro, in the nations they go straight off the back of the last news beat.

I really don't think ITV would want a mainstream player like the BBC taking advertising revenue. They're already seeing a downturn in advertising as it is......

The newsreaders think everyone comes back at 6.55 as they always say don't forget I'll be back in half an hour with the headlines. Must make them look rather stupid if the region doesn't return
