Just rescanning my Freeview box now, I see that the usual transmitter that serves me (Ridge Hill), has been renamed as 'Gloucestershire'.

Is there any reason by this or are all transmitters being renamed to the county or counties in which they're serving? Especially beings I live in Herefordshire anyway and the transmitter is located in the Herefordshire edge of the border anyway makes the exercise pointless?

The transmitter name was misleading - it was the name of the site where part of the coding process took place, not necessarily the tx you were receiving from.

I thought they were naming by Regions and not counties. For instance Winter Hill has been replaced by North West.

Winter Hill is the only transmitter in the North West region, if they called all the transmitters in the west 'west' it would be confusing

I had to rescan my tv for all the carrier names to be changed, some of them changed without the scan for some reason.

Extraordinary, seeing as Fremont Point doesn't transmit any DTT yet !

No it's not, Lancaster, Storeton, Saddleworth, and Pendle Forest also carry DTT, but until now have been labelled 'Winter Hill' because they're fed from the same SIPSI, come November, all of Winter Hill's relay stations will be transmitting DTT. Very confusing if they are labelled 'Winter Hill'.
