In this time of sorrow, I offer my deepest sympathy to Billy and his family. Words cannot express the terrible shock, concern and anger I feel at this time. Tragedies like this test us - we must unite as one and succeed. We will not be beaten by toys.
DAS-why,thank you! I would have thought this thread would be full of sarcastic remarks and stuff, but it's nice to know you really care. Thank you for that kind speech and I hope you can make some justice with your views.
SE- You've cheered me up a fraction-when is the ad going to be on the site? And from what year? PS-Geffory is alive and well (I have good authority from Toys R Us), he has 2 kids and will be his successors when Geoffory retires at 89. He is currently 42 and enjoying a happily married life.

How could
anyone
be sarcastic in such a time of tragic news?
DAS-Yes,I suppose so,it wouldn't be right would it!
Ryan-with all this change going round,I have to agree with you. The last of the greats if you like. I wonder If I'd have been like this with the Ki-Ora (I'll be your dog) ad If i was 10 years older? That lasted about the same time...
LeeS-That's the spirit! As you can probably guess,I grew up with it too. Personally the music lives on in the ad (Well, well done Toys R Us for that) ,but it's just not the same without the cartoon winding road at the start, the many people stacking up shelves,Geffory welcoming us in to whatever product he would like to show you today, then that shot of all those people walking in,packed into a box in the top right corner while they proudly announce the new Christmas catalouge.
Thank goodness for people like Square Eyes, with his site and capture card streching back for many years!
BTW-maybe this was the reason? Toys R Us have tweaked the logo, adding a star to the 'R' (picture from toysrus.co.uk )

Pushing sarcasm aside (which is actually quite a momentous occasion for me), the traditional Toys 'R' Us ad is a personal favourite. I adore the theme, have it on mp3, and agree that the cartoon should continue.
But, unfortunately, things must change, so just keep the memories folks.
There's a magical place, we're on our way there,
With toys there are millions all under one roof,
It's called Toys 'R' Us.
Soon after bedtime, when dark night-time falls,
Geoffrey and helpers stock up all the shelves,
From ceiling to floor, books, board games and bikes,
Teddies, puppets and dolls, beds, space ships and trikes.
There's millions says Geoffrey all under one roof,
It's called Toys 'R' Us, Toys 'R' Us, Toys 'R' Us.
I think it's safe to say they dropped the middle verse early on because of changing trends - kids today want computer games and Pokémon as opposed to books, board games and bikes, teddies, puppets and dolls, beds, space ships and trikes.
I'm sure I must have one of the old Toys R Us ads on an old video tape somewhere. I'll have a look this weekend, and hopefully it can be part of [S][E]asons Greetings, a big Christmas Update on [s][e]tv.
BUT, in the meantime, you can enjoy the new look Toys R Us advert, yes that's right I've uploaded it to the Classic Commercials bit of the site. Aaaahh bliss.
