TOTP-Saturday - COCKUP

On TOTP Saturday there was a live link to The Fame Academy studio which went with out a hitch.

Opting back to TOTP Saturday studio from the Fame Academy site was a bit problematic to say the least.

The Fame Academy presenter handed back to the TOTP studio but nothing happened. She then realised she was still on and got one of the performers to do some sort of breakdancing to fill until it eventually cut back to Fern Cotton in the TOTP studio.

Fern spoke for a few seconds before it cut to the CBBC guy (from Byker Grove) saying that TOTP Saturday will be back next week etc etc. Then it cut back to Fame Academy and then back to TOTP Saturday.

From these cockups it was obvious that TOTP Saturday is totally pre-recorded and also the CBBC links were pre-recorded aswell.

At least SMTV and CDUK are still essentially LIVE!

Thought that both SMTV and CDUK were often entirely pre-recorded - they certainly have been in the past (you wouldn't see the red LED clock on the set when they were pre-recing)
The difference was that they were an entirely pre-recorded show - it is much more difficult to mix and match.

The Lottery do this - but they have a full gallery for the live bit so can manage the whole thing a bit better.

From the description of the fault it sounds like presentation were playing out the kit of parts - which went a bit pearshaped.

Well Des and Stephen made the same joke on air this morning...

"Please welcome the Queen of Steps"
"What - H?"
"No, Faye!"

She wasn't exactly a brilliant presenter, was she... I can see SM:tv gaining ratings again before the end.

Of course TOTP-Saturday is recorded.
I attended a free tour of TVC last Saturday morning as part of London Openhouse weekend, and all the tours were taken into TC3, which they left the TOTP performance stages up.

Yep - though the TOTP sets are often left rigged in TC3 unless the studio is required for a different programme. No point in paying to de-rig and rig the sets for no reason...

The only cock up TOTP Saturday ever made was going on the air in the first place!

I will check this out. I didnt think that it would be live. It was too rubbish to be live. Are they still doing the no audience thing? No wonder SM:tv's balconey ahs two tiers now, the BBC's saturday morning kids need somewhere to go. Is it me or are there a few people that are there every week, the saturday show & SM:tv, it seems they just move them around a bit!

There have only been a few occassions when sm:tv has been pre recorded. One being the christmas day show in 1999, well they wouldnt present that live, would they! It was longer too due to it being christmas day and no cd:uk!

The following weeks show, new years day 2000 was live though, they did the entire show from what was dressed up to be the bedroom of the chums flat with dec braking the bed minutes in.

There have been a few occasions within the year that were pre recorded and a lot recently since march when they dropped the live. Though there have been more live than not live. They had a clock well the two hands of the clock in the circle at the back of the set of march 22nd. Though this was removed, I wonder why!

SM:tv Gold was good again this morning. Havent watched dick & dom yet, Im still missing the repeat of it in the afternoon, and will go and watch totp saturday to check out this mistake. Sounds good, I love it when things go wrong. Its most prorbably a lonely man sitting in a booth that presses play on programmes, then links, then connects to dick & dom, then pays a link, totp sat, a link and finish. Wouldnt surprise me if it was done by the main bbc one suite.

I think the only time live links were done on a saturday were during planet saturday/saturday aardvark.
