Oooh, who said Scott Mills!!! He'd be great on TANTOTP(!). Not sure if he'd work with Margarita Taylor, but even on his own he'd work well. I reckon we might see Chris Moyles finally get a shot now he's been promoted to the top slot on Radio 1. Have a feeling Sara Cox did it at some (brief) point.
If they had it on Sunday how could they possibly book the act who's number 1?
With the amount of midweek/late week/weekend pre-charts available, it can be narrowed down to two or three acts maximum who are going to be number one. It would be up to clever planning and, naturally, use of pre-recorded performances if need be, and wouldn't be difficult at all to do.
I think the bigger picture of the show being moved to 7 (i think the BBC wouldn't choose 6 for fear of removing listeneres from its "Official Chart Show) is the fact that it's fresh - the chance to see the acts who've literally just charted, plus the fact that it would have to be a live show (a la CD:UK) therefore much more entertaining.

Hang on, you say you want a live show, but say the number 1 may need to be pre-recorded!
I'd favour a move to Monday or Tuesday though. Remember the official chart used to be released on Tuesday afternoon (it was the chart as of end of sales on Saturday - no shopping on Saunday then - but took until Tuesday to count sales) and so having TOTP on the Thursday made more sense.
When it went to Sunday chart release Radio 1 made a big thing about it and pretended that the singles were played out as their position was confirmed by chart HQ! There was even the dot-matrix printer noise as if the information was coming off the printer!! God that takes me back!
This is what I'd do if I wanted to revamp TOTP - and this is contraversial...
Take the charts off Radio 1. Radio 1's a NEW music station and very often has no link to the stuff in the charts anyway.
Move the Top 40 to TV - live on CBBC Sunday 4-7 with the last half hour simulcast on BBC ONE. The show would mostly play out videos, but would have live performances too, including the number 1 if they could pre-book in time.
I think this would increase the audience quite a bit and as it would be the ONLY place that the chart was being announced, acts would be more likely to appear.

Emphasis on "if need be", though as i stated, in these days of the availability of sales figures on pretty much every day of the week, it wouldn't be much of a problem booking the relevant acts. The reason i mention pre-recorded is because that eventuality is still far preferable to showing videos. As long as the presentation of the programme was live - because the disjointed feel of the show of late doesn't feel right for TOTP.
Get rid of Bacon, he's a muppet that can't present his way out of a paper bag. Some music related presenters with knowledge might make a change, we haven't had any of those on TOTP since, ooh, Scott Mills?
The star bar was a rubbish idea anyway, so good riddance.
I quite liked it when they used it for acoustic performances but when they used it for the pointless interviews then it got bad.
They don't seem to understand that noone likes the interviews on TOTP.
Put it on Thursdays again - make it all live like re:covered and just have music - no drivvel. That is what people want.
TOTP could be on at 6.30pm on a Sunday with the announcement of the number one at 6.55pm LIVE and then a closing performance of the number 1 (which they would know cos these days it is so easy to predict) and then at 7pm on BBC Three they could have TOTP 'Extra' which had more performances and then the interviews and behind the scenes bits on that
Haven't read the whole of the thread but interview with Andi in the internal BBC rag this week. The re-launch is on November 28th .. will be a new set, logos, graphics and theme (the shows around the world will also change).
The show will have less music numbers but will have what are desribed as 'news hits' which will include live and pre-recorded reports from the US. Andi says he wants to it to be a 'one stop shop for everything you need to know about pop music'.
First show will run 7-8pm and include a one off extra on BBC Three after.
