I notice that since moving to BBC2, TOTP has lost half its audience and now only 1 million viewers are tuning in.

How long before it is axed I wonder!

Last week it was beaten by Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory (a movie that was over THIRTY years old) and now it's losing ground to Carry On Up The Khyber!! The time has come to put this show out of its misery once and for all. It's sad to see a once great institution limping along like that. Rolling Eyes

The show has been totally ruined...thanks to Andi Peters and the BBC's handling of it. Rolling Eyes

Goodbye Top of the Pops. Sad

The thing is, it IS possible to revamp a show and give it a new lease of life. You only have to hang around for an hour to see how Top Gear has been turned into a must see programme, or Strictly Come Dancing. But it has to be done right. Top Of The Pops stumbled from one idea to another, Friday nights, going against Corrie, being live, Tim Kash. I could go on Exclamation Evil or Very Mad

TOTP cannot go, it's a BBC trademark. At least move it to a better channel or at least stick to Friday!

- trademark + embarassment (at the moment)

I thought Christian O'Connell did well on Sunday's TOTP, certainly put Fearne to shame.

But when are we going to see some original, rarely shown archive TOTP performances? The Michael Jackson's "Rockin' Robin" and Adam and the Ants' "Antmusic" performances have been played to death already on TOTP2.

And nice to see TOTP showing two songs below the Top 20 for a change.

BBC News - TOTP loses half its audience

Personally, after seeing it three times on Sundays now, I agree with some of the commenters points at the URL above that the show has actually got better since the change. There is now a mixture of old music (and good old music as well) and new, and no time is wasted on links; it goes from song to song, which has to be appeciated. The news has been shortened/cut as well, thus giving time for more acts. TOTP has finally returned to its roots, and I think that the low ratings are down to people not used to the new Sunday slot yet.

There is nothing interesting, exciting, or worth watching about the program any more.

It reminds me of how the show used to be in 1993, when a random hit from 30 years ago was slotted in as a "countdown" to the 1500th episode. It was out of place and ruined the flow of the show.

Same problem now. I've got extremely broad music taste, but there is nothing there to make me go out of my way to watch it. Ric Blaxill once said that he wanted to make TOTP exciting and get people talking about it again. The only people talking about it at the moment are those saying how crap it has become.

One of the funniest and accurate comments I have read on this discussion board! Very Happy

Today's London Evening Standard is apparantly reporting TOTP is dropping the singles chart in favour of becoming an album based show as part of another overhaul. In a bid to become more credible the show is to shed it's "teen" image.

Oh just put the show out of its misery and dump it. The only edition people really watch is the one on Christmas day and that SHOULD be kept.
