TOTP2 Discontinued? That's a shame, I preferred it to TOTP.

TOTP 2 have been kind of incorporated, what with an archive TOTP peformance

Wasn't there an old video shown on TOTP for a few weeks several years ago when it was 35 minutes long for some reason?

Well it was a very odd programme.
As people have suggested it seems madness to aim at two seperate audiences, especially as Emmerdale will most probably be pulling in many old TOTP2 viewers.

What's wrong with having two programmes that share a brand?

It was a very strange programme. I though that the programme would have worked even better than it did on BBC One, if they had simply carried the programme over with current acts and kept Reggie and Lindsey doing the voice overs (now they really were strange, especially as he didn't put in any enthusiasm at all), and simply emphasised how new the charts were. They'd pull in viewers who weren't going out on a Sunday, and aims at a totally different audience to Emmerdale, the antiues roadshow or news.

Just heard on the Beeb's 10, that Long John Baldry's died.

Would it be too much for the current TOTP team to pay tribute, by playing the existing 1967 clip of 'Let The Heartaches Begin' on Sunday, as one of the archive clips?

I am loving the way this weeks guest co-host, Jeremy Clarkson is completely slating every modern act peformig tonight - something which is making TOTP that bit more watchable tonight!

However, I can't see him being invited back any time in the near future...!

Yea, was just going to post the same thing. The slightly older generation probably loving Jeremy tonight, while his sarcasm flys over the kids heads.

Clarkson was brilliant. The bit when he was listening to his iPod whilst the band were playing was fantastic!

Quite enjoyed it tonight, but that's because a) my music taste is horrifically eclectic b) I like presenters who go mental and slate everything, it's the TV equivalent of watching a car crash and c) it was current, meaning the chart was announced relatively timeously.

However how many other people would it have appealed to? Who the hell is going to listen to that Gasoline crap, then watch Buck's Fizz, and then The Who? No-one could possibly like three songs in a row - it reminds me of how shambolic the Virgin Radio playlist used to be.

Niche broadcasting is the way forward now - more and more digital channels are popping up, meaning you can watch the genre you like. If you like indie you can listen to XFM rather than your heritage station, watch Kerrang rather than The Box, etc. Only the BBC would revert back to a televisual equivalent of BBC Radio before Radio 1.

Mind you, the Clarkson effect was good - maybe the one audience that exists for TOTP is kids who watch it with their parents. If that's the case, then having Clarkson there to represent older people who complain about new music and covers, and having Fearne there as the younger people's representative, might just work if they did it long term. But I'm not optimistic on the future presenters - bringing in a DJ who is only known in London (Christian O'Connell of XFM) means that 80% of the audience will be going "Who?"

You mean Christian O'Connell, formal of the Bournmouth 2CR breakfast show, and formerly also of BBC Radio 5 Live, where he presented Fighting Talk?

He's known a bit more widely then just in London.

So he's worked for one more local radio station and a sports show which doesn't exactly have a massive mainstream audience? Nah, sounds like the same mistake Five made when they gave him a "Live with..." programme - "We've heard of him so therefore everyone else must have".

I'm afraid viewers north of Watford will be wondering exactly who he is.

did anyone tape this as I missed it and would love to see it. I notice the late night Saturday repeat has been scrapped.

Christian O'Connell is just awful. He needs shot.
