As you may or may not already know TOTP will make the 'big move' in a couple of weeks time - I wonder why it's taken so long. Also, interesting to see that Reggie will not be joining Fearne over on Two, and instead the show will be returning to its roots a bit with special guest presenters each week. The 35 minute show will coincide with the new Top 40 chart, and vintage performances will be shown on a regular basis. So, not much
new
music then?
BBC Two controller Roly Keating said the new slot "marks a new exciting era", whilst desperately trying to disguise the fact that since the relaunch, the show has become crap.
There are many reasons why it's moving. The biggest being it performs very poorly in the ratings. Many people claim that's as a result of being up against Corrie, but personally i doubt it would fair much better if it wasn't. Until TOTP offers something uniquely different to the hundreds of other music channels and other media forms, it's as good as dead - where ever it is in the schedule.
So there it was then - Sunday from now on, with the exception of next Mondays show. I notice that there was confetti and an ecstatic dancers for 'Nasty Girl'; perhaps this was a symbol of TOTPs final live peformance on a Friday night!
As mentioned above, special guest presenters will take places alongside Fearne as of next week - so will Monday be Reggies final show, or was that it?!!
Is the Monday episode on so that the chart announced on Sunday can be incorporated into the programme :
The only logical reason is that Mondays show will deal with the forthcoming chart, which would otherwise have not been adressed as the new Sunday show from the 17th will cover the chart for that night, and next friday would have been too close to the new slot. Hope that mkes sense.
Shame, as a Monday slot for TOTP on BBC ONE would be perfect; going out a day after the chart rather than waiting five days by which stage most of the people still bothered in the charts will know next week's because of the midweeks; gives people something to watch after the first day back at work. But then again whichever slot BBC ONE puts TOTP in between 7pm-9pm it will still clash with a soap on ITV1.
And nice mistake to run the Top Ten rundown without Lynsey Brockney's voiceover. Give that man a bunch of bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S...
