The one thing that showed me the angle the series is going to take was the
fact that in the very first scene they've destroyed the theory of an afterlife.

Many a religious group will be pleased with that angle. Laughing

And they're the sort of people that need to get a life and realise that Torchwood is science fiction .

Incidentally, I think this Torchwood is a different Torchwood to the T.I. at 1. Canada Square . . .

It is ... Capt. Jack said this Torchwood HQ was number 4, and the London HQ of TW, was number 1.

Oh, I misunderstood that part, I thought the numbering was chronological (as in "We were in London first . . . &c.". so I thought "so this Torchwood must be a different one that was set in London first."), because I thought "Wasn't the Torchwood Institute in Scotland first?", even if that was the case, on retrospect, was that just the place it was named after, or did it hq. it originally?

As opposed to the numbering being heirarchal of importance (of hq.).

I am getting a little too pedantic on fiction here Razz!

Took time getting into the program but after the first episode understanding it, I really liked the series and can't wait for the next episode. I noticed that the BBC three website is still pointing to the Torchwood website,

You mean Torchwood 3, Torchwood 4 is missing.

BBC3's Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood launched with 2.4 million viewers last night - believed to be the biggest ever multichannel audience for a UK-originated, non-sports programme.

The heavily promoted BBC3 drama, about a bunch of alien hunters in Cardiff, is thought to be second only to an episode of Friends, broadcast on Sky One six years ago, which attracted 2.8 million viewers.

Last night's first episode of Torchwood was the third most watched show on any UK network in its timeslot, between 9pm and 9.50pm, beaten only by ITV1's Prime Suspect and Channel 4 movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Torchwood also tied for third place with BBC1 drama Wide Sargasso Sea on 2.4 million viewers.

A second instalment of the new BBC3 drama, shown back to back with the opening episode, attracted 2.3 million viewers from 9.50pm - an encouraging result, suggesting that Torchwood held most of its audience over nearly two hours.

I thought it was OK, but not great. It's got potential but needs working on. It's certainly better then 'Doctor Who'. Captain Jack is better then that smug t w @ t "Doctor" . And the woman who plays Gwen is a better actress then wooden top Billie Piper could ever hope to be. Rolling Eyes

The biggest problem was the shoddy balance of light and dark. particularly in the 2nd episode when it just got too silly and was bordering on ludicrous. Also it's not really "Adult" at all is it?- Which is a shame. It's more akin to Hollyoaks' idea of "Adult", where they just shoehorn swearing & a sex scene in to re-affirm the fact that they should be on at late night. The kids will love it, but unless it matures a bit I think the adults will tire of it.

I liked it, 'some of us' like a bit of escapism not the endless factory line of Reality TV shows. So now this & Doctor Who great Very Happy

Looking forward to seeing this develop.

There was an episode of Friends in January 1999 that got 2.41 million, though I imagine Torchwood's rating will be higher than that once the final ratings were taken into account.

Very positive ratings,anyway.

I quite enjoyed Torchwood. It doesn't have me totally gripped and emotionally challenged as the great Doctor Who does but all in all it's a very fine piece of drama.

I wonder what the ratings will be like for the programme when it's shown on BBC2.

Maybe they should go the whole hog and swap Robin Hood with Torchwood! Very Happy

Somehow, I doubt Torchwood is suitable for early Saturday evenings without major content edits!
