I just cannot wait for the first ep to air and see if it lives up to Doctor Who. I'm sorry if there another topic on this but I did an search I couldn't find one. I like the idea of pointing www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree to the Torchwood website.

13 eps in the series and I will hopefully watch all of them.

The references to Doctor Who seem more subtle than they were in Doctor Who for Torchwood.

Anyone else think the severed hand is hand is that of the doctor from during the Christmas invasion?

Overall, pretty good so far. Although two things slightly spoiled the show for me.

The blurriness of the "filmic" effect. As much as some people hate it in general, it's something they've more or less got right
in Doctor Who. To be honest, it looked awful. IMHO, if producers want to add the "filmic" effect, especially for high profile,
heavily promoted programs such as this, either do it right, or don't bother doing it at all!

The other thing was the gory "weevil" attack on the hospital porter. The spurting blood effect looked too fake, almost comical.
In fact. I'd go as far as to compare that particular scene to whenever there's a spurting blood gag on Letterman's show!

Did anyone notice the veiled reference to the Doctor in one of the final scenes of the first episode, when he was explaining
to Gwen how he can't be die? And how come, towards the end of the episode, Captain Jack was seen standing on the
precipice of rather tall building? Was he having some niggling doubts about his powers of immortality?

Another veiled reference, in the scene with the incarcerated "weevil" creature ... "Silence Of The Lambs", anyone?

Disapointed Confused . . .:
1. The weevil was treated disrespectfully, in my opinion,
2. They have thousands of alien-technologies, yet they still test on rats,
3. They perform capital punishment, in a total contradiction to the ethics in the episode whith the raxo-califa . . . (Slitheen) who was to be executed.

Obs., I am aware that it isn't real, but I think attitude is important.

Disappointed . . ..

I loved it, in my opinion is better then Doctor Who in some aspects.

For those who wanted to know, it's repeated at 1am along with the online behind the scenes programme. So I'm setting my DVD now I know it's worth it.

Can't wait for next weeks episode! Very Happy

By the way, I'd like to make a very early prediction about Jack's past... I think he may be another Time Lord, but I may be wrong. Would explain why he wont explain himself, and also why he knew so much about the doctor. Confused:

Perhaps the face of bo will say "Jack is your son.", suddenly came to me earlier today.

that was the Doctor's ethics, not Torchwood's. I haven't seen it yet as I no longer have digital (damn that relay) however if the attitude of Yyvone on the finale of Doctor Who is anything to go by, Torchwood's ethics are quite different.

I was refering to the ethics of the 'good guys' in both episodes.

Incidentally, I think this Torchwood is a different Torchwood to the T.I. at 1. Canada Square, though this programme referred to the "Canary WHARF attacks", so it appears to be in canon with 'Doctor Who'.

It is ... Capt. Jack said this Torchwood HQ was number 4, and the London HQ of TW, was number 1.

The one thing that showed me the angle the series is going to take was the fact that in the very first scene they've destroyed the theory of an afterlife.

Many a religious group will be pleased with that angle. Laughing
