Top Of The Pops To Return

According to 'The Mirror' TOTP2 will re-launch on BBC2 next Saturday with a 50 minute special (subsequent shows will be 30 mins). The show will be a fusion of archive performances and new performances in front of a studio audience - which was exactly what TOTP was 2 months ago when it was axed. So what exactly was the point in axing it?

Radio Times confirms this. So Top of the Pops wasn't axed then.

Top of the pops was axed but they said on its last show that totp2 and totp xmas specials will stay.

Yeah, but they didn't say there would be new performances.

At the time they said TOTP2 would return for occasional specials. They never said it would return in a weekly form and be exactly like TOTP

It was the right decision to axe it (though a couple of years to late) - and rather than plugging the gap with TOTP2 they should now be looking seriously at other music programmes.

I presume that the old music/new music ratio will be different/opposite. TOTP on BBC Two had one archive song per show, the rest of the show was the current week's music.

I bet the new TOTP2 will predominantly archive stuff, with less than 50% being "current week" music.

it dosent stand a chance. they said against corrie was a bad slot, they said against emmerdale was a bad slot but against x factor!

Maybe BBC2 are scheduling TOTP2 on a Saturday so it provides people with an alternative to The X Factor and other light entertainment shows.

The series began its life as a Saturday evening programme back in 1994 before it switched to Wednesdays in 1999.

Sadly, Steve Wright is still "hosting" which is a disappointment.
