Look North (Yorkshire)
And no 7.30 show. Back on schedule with The Queen's Palace.

More Twitter-rage in 3... 2... 1...

I'm starting to think the world would be a much better place if twitter was dropped from the schedule of everyone's lives permanently.

No acknowledgement regards the dropping of TOTP 1988 from the continuity announcer on BBC4 at 8pm when the schedule got back on track, or even a confirmation that it will be on later at midnight, which I'm sure it will be. That shows a bit of disrespect to what they know full well is a very loyal BBC4 audience these past 8 years in this time slot for these re-runs.

1988 seems to be having trouble getting properly started. Maybe it's a good thing, trying to put off the dreaded arrival of the appalling Bros for as long as humanely possible.

Well there's a Bros night on BBC Four on the 19th July to enjoy, they were on the Radio 2 breakfast show promoting it the other day.

And guess what the first song is when the episode begins in just over 35 minutes!!!

Someone needs to edit the thread description, please. "1986 now on BBC Four". That's been out of date for six months now, and even if it had been updated then would now need changing again.

Is that only available to be changed by the thread starter and aren't you the thread starter as you had the debut post?

In response to UKnews, normally there is one BBC red button, yes, but there have been SIX broadcast BBC red button channels on Freeview since the weekend in readiness for Wimbledon fortnight on Channels 601, 602, 603, 604, 605 and 606.

Five of those are on Com8, so originally available to 70% of Freeview viewers but now decreasing, so perhaps I should have said there is one broadcast red button stream that is available to everyone.

Do you still think a 30 year old repeat should take propriety over live sport?

Nicky Campbell's debut on TOTP seemed an extraordinarily self confident and assured one to me. He looked like he had been the regular presenter for quite some time already. Gary Davies as the newbie five years earlier was far less self assured and he took a while to settle into it as his natural self. Even Janice Long did. More recently and with the Simon Mayo debut he looked very much the inexperienced wet behind the ears face on the show against the regular presenter. But Campbell landed with supreme confidence. That's to be admired but also I recall his demeanour wasn't endearing to everyone. Smug, self satisfied and arrogant were comments I recall at the time.

I'm quite curious as to why the producer of TOTP was relying so heavily on Gary Davies on the presenting roster during this period. Even more curious that some weeks he was deemed fine to present solo, then paired up again.

The three consecutive TOTP editions shown on Saturday night provided a different No1 single by a female solo artist - Belinda Carlisle, Tiffany and then Kylie Minogue. Never before had three solo women topped the charts one after another like that. Then on the 18th February 1988 edition the top three was all female soloists with Kylie, Tiffany & Taylor Dayne. The first ever top three of solo females I think. You'd have likely picked Tiffany over Kylie to be the longer chart prospect at that time but I think Taylor Dayne deserved more success than she ultimately ended up with.
