I suppose ITV could always acquire the rights to the ToTP name and format, if the BBC were willing to sell it to them.
Unlikely I know, but then there's no guarantee the BBC will even continue to produce ToTP Christmas specials in the
future. I know the 2007 Christmas special has been recorded and is pretty much ready to be broadcast on the 25th,
but the Beeb might decide to break the tradition and not bother doing it next year, unless there's enough demand.
Of course, if ITV were to buy the rights to ToTP, they'd probably plonk it on ITV2, back in it's classic Thursday early
evening slot like it was in the 1980's, when ToTP was still very popular. The irony of that, would be that it'd clash
with Thursday's EastEnders, like it used to clash with Friday's Corrie, before it got pushed over to BBC TWO!
I dread to even think what ITV might do to the ToTP format, if they managed to get their grubby mits on it!
Interesting how the ad uses the "current" identity yet the logo on the box is the 98-03 version...wonder if they weren't allowed to use it or perhaps they just preferred it from a design point of view?
Look at the background. I'd say that the logo used is the one most DVD buyers will recognise, and the 'egg' symbol adds another something into the mix.
Maybe the 1998-2003 logo was easier/cheaper to get permission to use on the cover than the most recent logo, or the classic TOTP logo in the circle - which, I'd argue would have been the logo with the most mass appeal.
Well, as I said, the latest logo is shown in the background. I know the neon-style logo is most recognised, but is it by the sorts of people who buy these sorts of DVD? I would argue no.
