So I turned over today at the end of Doctor Who to notice they were having another one of these gigs outside TVC with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Now I remember reading something about a performing licence a while back, and therefore can only presume this is a regular occurage (I haven't watched TOTP in ages.)

So if so, why the hell is this not advertised? I'm sorry but having rather large bands such as the Chillis and Green Day performing live outside in front of TVC should surely herald the same over enthusiastic drivvel that such events get when Radio One has them?

TOTP is a rather strong brand, surely if they could do a top gear and relaunch it into a big live music fest like this, it would show the BBC is more than capable of being modern and youthful, not just MTV and what not. This would surely be a boon taking into account Radio One seems to be BBCphobic and avoids mentioning the letters when they can.

Yeah, I came across this as I was looking around to see what was on. It was all nicely done.

Am I a bit sad in noticing the second 'i' wasn't working on the big 'Television Centre' lit sign? Confused

Wasn't there a letter out last time they did a car park gig?

The RHCP gig was recorded on Easter Saturday, and they played a couple of songs from it on that weekend's show. But it does seem a little odd not to have plugged it more...

I don't think I've ever seen all the lights working simitaneously

Perhaps this answers marksi's question about why the Media Centre and Broadcast Centre don't have signs?

Funnily enough they're showing last Sunday's TOTP now. According to the schedule it's meant to be dead air so I assume this was a last minute thing? But again, with little notification few people will have realised.

Oh but they do have signs. It's just that they're for Tesco and Starbucks.

I see Gnarls Barkley's still No 1.

Who prefers the video audio to the studio audio?

The video audio is faster than the studio audio, & I prefer it.

I assume you're asking who prefers the radio version over the live performance - personally, I think they're both excellent in their own unique way. If anything, the studio performance gives the track a new dimension, taking it away from its slight hip-hop qualities.

How does the production team decide whether to play the live performance or video per week, not just Gnarls Barkley, any group?

Do they only have the rights to play either performance so many times, or is it personal preference?

Not sure - I remember in years gone by, they'd usually show a studio performance if one had been recorded. To have shown the video last week and gone back to the studio performance this week seems slightly inconsistent, and frankly pointless, considering how often the video is shown on the satellite channels.

I suppose it's to give variety.
