There's a report in another forum that the programme was sourced from Diddy David Hamilton's own personal recording made on his Philips N1500 VCR.
Did anyone watch the Bbc Four Totp tonight & have an opinion of the technical quality?

Looked a bit fuzzy but still better than the You Tube stuff that seems acceptable to use in news reports now.
Not sure if it was related but the late showing appeared to be the same edit as the 1930 - no songs missed out but all looked slightly trimmed for time (and the EPG had it down as 5 minutes shorter than the Radio Times). Not sure if it's related to it not being a master tape but a bit unusual.

Both my recordings of the 7.30 and midnight showings run to exactly 29 minutes, so I assume there were no edits at all and we saw everything they saw in 1977. There was no long playout presumably because it was faded after the credits on original transmission.
The Radio Times was printed before they decided to show this episode; however the next two episodes are both 30 minutes long anyway, then we have a nine week run of 40 minute episodes.

That's probably true then - if Pops was squashed into a half hour on original TX that week then I suppose it's quite conceivable they themselves would have made a few songs shorter so they could still get though a similar number of tracks.
I do wonder with the very long playouts on the late night BBC4 repeats how many are being shown for the first time - if, presumably, they were included on the original recordings so BBC1 could jump off at whatever time suited them!

If it is the post I read on the Mausoleum Club, it said it had been brightened up and zoomed in from the original transfer which I had noticed. I have a few N1500 etc transfers and it can look far better.

It's a pity BBC Four didn't take a few seconds to explain how this episode of Top of the Pops had recently been returned. They could have then included the original BBC One continuity, at least on the late night repeat. That's assuming that Mr. Hamilton recorded it, of course. Does he has every episode of All Clued Up in his collection too?
NJ
All Clued Up ran 1988-1991 so it almost certainly exists in full anyway regardless of what Mr Hamilton was doing with his VCR. Some of it, if not all of it, has been on The Family Channel and/or Challenge. Only about 65 episodes were made and it wasn't spectular as a gameshow anyway.

All of it has been broadcast on Challenge, last time was about 2002? same time when the TVS Catchphrase also appeared. But it's the Disney problem again, and the lost paper work and well that lost in the mist of times

Which is of course a very sad state of affairs but at least TVS Catchphrase and All Clued Up have been shown since original broadcast and bits of them exist on YouTube. It's Nick Owen's Hitman that is the true loss to society. Will we ever see it again? I fear not. Nick Owen must hate Walt Disney right about now.
