I have given the series a miss for the last couple of years after the Cohen debacle

The what?

The then head of BBC TV programming 'Cohen' destruction of the programme after the Clarkson incident - his alleged briefing against Tony Hall and Clarkson to the Mail (Private Eye) for his own ambitions to get the DG job. It destroyed the programme, caused a great deal of anxiety across parts of the BBC and Worldwide lost a huge amount of sales.

I was a massive fan of the Clarkson, Hammond & May years on Top Gear and I am one of them idiots that would watch repeats on Dave however Jeremy Clarkson had many warnings against him and always managed to keep his job and punching a producer is completely unacceptable therefore I cannot criticise Cohen or the BBC with what they did in 2015. Thankfully now we have 2 amazing car shows with Flintoff, McGuinness and Harris doing brilliantly on Top Gear and Clarkson, Hammond and May doing their show on Amazon.

Amused to see Danny Cohen's Wiki page claiming that while at the BBC "he commissioned programmes such as Doctor Who, Strictly Come Dancing, EastEnders and The Graham Norton Show" as if he'd discovered them.

You can't beat a bit of reflected glory.

I think the show is in a really good place at the minute. Hope BBC One moves does muck it up.

Now BBC Two has all this room I wonder if we see a BBC Four merge in.

Kinda like what DR in Denmark did with DR2 and DR K.

They also launched a online sister channel to DR2 called DR2+

Any bets on it turning up on Christmas Day, though Boxing Day would be a better fit.

It won't be on Christmas Day but I could see it working maybe on Boxing day or NY Day

I still think, despite its popularity, it's too much of a "niche" to succeed on BBC One. I'm happy to be proven wrong, but yeah. I can't see it working too well.

I’ve got almost no interest in cars. But even for me, it’s quite easy to dip in and out of and always enjoy it. It’s more or less a structured reality show which happens to be themed around motoring with blokes mucking about. I2 of the 3 presenters are very popular stars in their own right too certainly with more than a niche profile.

I’m sure it’s a case of if it gets more viewers on BBC One it’s a bonus but as long as it keeps what it’s got, it’ll be doing alright for the channel in it’s given slot.
