whose parent company is News International... who also allegedly publish a popular red-top "newspaper"

I'm not sure that "News International publish The Sun" needs an allegedly. If you were describing it as "red top alleged newspaper" you might have a point Smile

Is the new Stig Tiff Needell?

If so, that was the quickest Stig-outing ever methinks.

So it's back again tonight, and I just thought I'd share this snippet with you from the Scum:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/3365371/The-new-Stig-looks-the-same-as-the-old-Stig.html

1 - it's not a news story. It barely fills a couple of horribly-constructed sentences

Shocked

2 - "TIGHT" BBC bosses? If they'd spent a couple of hundred pounds on a new customised fireproof racing suit and racing crash helmet for New Stig, they'd have been lambasted for wasting licence payers money.

Yeah, good job they haven't splashed out on a stunt landing a helicopter on top of a car under the pretense of a "review", for instance.

The BBC Two credit squeeze didn't quite work at the end. As soon as they started the squeeze, the credits changed to a blank black picture and never came back even when they were restored to full screen. It left BBC Two broadcasting a blank black picture with audio for about 8 or 9 seconds.

That stunt would have been within the show's budget. Replacing the Stig was an anomalous event, therefore any extra expense necessary incurred by it would have constituted spending on something outside the normal feature commissioning/filming process.

A little footnote - the credits weren't italicised tonight. Wonder why they decided to change that....

Must have been on network only - it was fine on BBC 2 Wales.

I noticed the most recent trailers for Top Gear have announced that it's "only on BBC Two" ... they've neglected to
mention that it's also on BBC HD. Which is strange, considering how much the Beeb has been promoting HDTV.

I've noticed that too - there's even a channel sting doing the rounds with that phrase as its tagline.

As for the de-italicised credits, could it be for legibility when squeezed? Admittedly that will make very little difference if they decide to broadcast a blank screen instead!

I would imagine the costs of a new race suit and helmet pale into insignificance compared to the value of the merchandise which has already been produced and is sat on shop shelves.

Is it just me who finds it odd that the shot below appeared to be watermarked by a website? Laughing

I'm not sure It was watermarked, it seemed to be on the actual car. You can also see it later on too...
