I thought it started off a bit slow, but it just got better and better, the race through New York was epic stuff. Great ending on Manhattan Neighboor Hood Television too, I really didn't see that coming! Cool

I can't wait for Boxing Day's episode now.

It was great and I'm glad the Stig got the treatment he deserved.

Sorry mis-understood the promo. Getting two separate specials really is something!

I don't think this is even a special - I think it's the start of a new series but the timing is a bit odd.

Edit:

According to this it is actually episode 7 of the previous series.

I think that's an error. I put the Tuesday 8pm start to the new series, down to the fact the Sports Personallity of the year awards were on Sunday, and at 8pm both BBC One and BBC Two would be fighting over the same audience demographic. In past years, they've moved Top Gear out to 9pm to avoid the 8-9pm clash.

In the past the availability of the HD channel may have been a factor too

they really got their own back on the stig didn't they, quite well deserved as well

the 'accident' with the lights was funny as well, obviously staged as if it was for real they'd stop filming as it's not a live show

I wonder if the series is late coming on due to all the legal stuff with the stig

It was great and nicely festive in a way that only Top Gear can be. Just watching The Royle Family, that was excellent too. It's turned into a Christmas regular now and gets better every year

I was going to make a separate thread on this, but I can't be arsed - how is censorship on Top Gear handled? Considering it's typically an 8pm show, hearing "cock" and "b*stard" is a little unusual. However, May and JC were discussing the translation of "b*stard" uncensored, whilst Hammond called the others "b*stards" when Genesis started playing and it was bleeped. I also recall a daytime airing of an episode where Jay Kay was a guest and swore, yet uncensored.

Not that I'm complaining over the use of this language at all, but I'm merely curious by how selective this censorship is, especially when they leave one word uncensored, then bleep it afterwards.

As with everything it'll all be down to context. The conversation about the translation of the word is a joke that wouldn't work without the word being used. Calling someone a 'bas tard' is gratuitous.

I'm surprised that it would get bleeped at all, it's very mild especially by 8pm standards

So it's back again tonight, and I just thought I'd share this snippet with you from the Scum:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/3365371/The-new-Stig-looks-the-same-as-the-old-Stig.html

1 - it's not a news story. It barely fills a couple of horribly-constructed sentences

2 - "TIGHT" BBC bosses? If they'd spent a couple of hundred pounds on a new customised fireproof racing suit and racing crash helmet for New Stig, they'd have been lambasted for wasting licence payers money.

3 - The "book" that Ben Collins blabbed about was published by HarperCollins, whose parent company is News International... who also allegedly publish a popular red-top "newspaper"

Anyway, roll on 8pm.

I would imagine it was to avoid a clash with the X Factor. The previous year they moved it to 9pm but I don't think they were ever happy about that.
