Do you reckon we'll ever find out who the Stig is?

Apparently he's not the original Stig. The original one (who's name escapes me) revealed that it was he who was the Stig & promptly got sacked.

The black Stig was Perry McCarthy, an ex-F1 driver. I'm not sure if he was sacked but rather moved on, and his identity wasn't half as closely guarded as the current Stig(s).

Ah thanks for clearing that up, don't remember the black costume though Shocked

An internet search engine plus a bit of knowhow and insider gossip can lead you very quickly to the name of the current Stig. Or, come to think of it, just an internet search engine!

I notice on tonight's 'Best of' edition they've gone for a big 'Censored' and pixelation , mainly over when James has his smoking pipe (presumably lit).

Rolling Eyes Yes the PC brigade complained that they did it & that they could be blamed for kids starting smoking Rolling Eyes

Luckily I recorded that one off TV on the original broadcast so my copy is pixel free Very Happy

No kid is going to watch that and think "Wow! Jeremy Clarkson looks so cool! Must immitate!" If anything, they are killing off the industry triple handed.

Well exactly but apparently we all need to protect our kids for the evils of TV because parents can't educate ther kids properly, that's why ads for Beer & junk food have gone, toy ads next to take away the pressure of parents listen to their kids going on & on wanting a particular toy Rolling Eyes

I'm sure the complaints were because they were blatantly breaking the law rather than worries about children imitating them. The censoring is just normal Top Gear taking the piss. If it was really such an issue, that segment would have been dropped or refilmed, not covered up with massive mosaic effects and the word censorded dropped in.

Yes I know they technically were but you always have some sad git who has to complain even though, rather clearly, no one in the audience objected & there's no way that anyone in studio's health was compromised, I mean look at the size of the place, they would have done more dmamage to their health standing at Lancast Gate station then standing near them.

However I agree Top Gear were taking the piss with the blocking out that's just their style Laughing

Current Stig is A performance car test driver, and some time saloon car racing driver (Retd).
Although, for the really powerful cars, the manufactures own drivers are dressed up in the white racing suit of Stig.
Perry McCarthy had to give up the black race suit Stig role because the BBC couldn't get insurance for him to drive the cars, after he filmed a report with James May on the Dunsfold Park track and accidentally caused £4,000 worth of damage to the machanics of a classic car.

Whatever happened to "Top Gear Dog"? I don't remember seeing him at all this series.

Now someone's said it I might as well throw a name or two in.
Franck Montagny was the Stig for the Renault F1 test and I believe Luca Badoer has had a few laps too.

The truth really isn't that interesting.

There are suggestions of this if you read the Health and Safety Exec's report into Hammond's prang
