And people say ITV is total rubbish!

IT IS!!!!!!

Drama is on the whole very good - although plenty of duff dramas still there. Single Drama's(Booze Cruise, Tom's Midnight Garden etc...) or feature-length short series (e.g. Cracker, Prime Suspect, Hornblower, Frost, Morse, etc - where there are less than 6 episodes) have been their kingpin in recent years
Soap - FAR too many
Light Entertainment - disppeared
Serious Factual - disappeared
Reality - FAR to much
News - hope you like celebrities, no hard news nowadays!!!
Magazine style (wish You were Here, Where There's Life) - Not seen any for years

ITV home of Drama, soap, celebrities and reality!!!!!

especially compared to 5, 10 and 15 years ago!!!!!

God, Neighbours topped the chart in 1990 then with 21m viewers, and got over 20m in 1989 too!

Disappeared by 1992 - where Coronation Street is the only soap in the list.

Neighbours always got huge ratings back then. They had to put it in a teatime slot in 1988 as up until then it was only on at lunchtime and people complained they couldnt watch it.

Anyway, nice to see some quality shows up there - although I can't understand why Wild At Heart was so popular.

I think that must have been the first episode. I first thought since it starred Katy Jo Hudson, Stephen Thompkinson and Amanda Holden it might be OK/ A cosy Sunday night drama along the lines of Heartbeat/ Royal/ Where the Heart Is .

Sadly WAH was rather too cosy-- in other words dull Neutral

Dull, but the Sunday night dramas do bring in the viewers. Be interesting though to see how they'd cope without the Coronation Street inheritance!

People point out ITV, but what I want to know is how on earth BBC1's overall share is doing so well at the moment. If you think ITV1 is crap, just look at the BBC1 weeknight schedule - not to mention daytime!

Sorry, but I find it almost impossible to believe that the list is correct.

It is inconceivable that only two of England's 5 matches in the World Cup are included in the top 20 programmes, especially the England v Portugal match which if I remember correctly attracted 15 million on BBC 1 and 3 million on ITV 1.

I don't know where that list has come from, but it's almost certainly wrong- I've read about more England friendlies as well that have rated up higher than 8.23m and yet only one is included in the list.

I think ITV1is still ahead in peak time, it's the daytime schedule where BBC One pulls ahead, helping its overall share. Neighbours and Doctors obviously help.

Apologies, when I read that earlier for some reason I thought it meant that where both channels showed a match only one channel's figures were used (for some reason).

So it's not really the top 25 programmes of 2006. There have been many more programmes rating above 10 million than those listed.

Yes but if every individual programme was shown it'd just be a list of World cup games, Coronation Streets and Eastenders!

BBC1daytime is dire though - if im home during the day (which isnt very often actually) id much rather watfch Jeremy Kyle, This Morning, The Price is Right etc rather than the rubbish BBC1 show.

Not at all sure I agree with those last statements, although any debate on the overall quality of ITV drama is likely to be a purely subjective one. But I tend to agree with Carol Midgley of The Times , who yesterday wrote the following about Monday night's episode of Life Begins on ITV1:

"It was that rarest of things: a reason to make a date with ITV's drama department."

I have a feeling ITV1 is ahead up until about 12.30, then it switches around. I'm not entirely sure, but I'd say This Morning beats whatever BBC One has on at that time. It's the afternoon schedule which is very strong for BBC One, with a helping of afternoon soaps.
