Interesting (some would say unsurprising) to note how few 'reality' programmes in that list too. If only the main channels would listen!

Still, Dancing On Ice in fifth place...

Even though it's not a complete year, it would be interesting to compare it to the top 25 programmes of say 5 years, 10 years and 15 years ago if anyone can get hold of the info.

BillyH found the BARBs 25th Aniversary website a couple of weeks ago, enjoy.

Consider though that I'm a Celebrity hasn't been on in 2006 yet, neither has the final of The X Factor or Strictly. They will be up there by the end of the year

Yep, last year I'm A Celebrity was the third most watched show behind the two main soaps. It will most likely do well again this year.

Just goes to show how ratings have fallen these last 15 years.

A couple of surprises in the old data then - 18m watched Neighbours (was that Kylie and Jason's wedding?) and over 17m watched You've Been Framed - even though Jeremy Beadle was presenting!

They can be misleading though, like the 2006 Rebus example

17m might have watched one episode of YBF! but it doesn't mean it got that figure regularly

Looking at 2001 and 1996, although the figures have dropped, the sort of programmes and the orders are pretty much the same as today

Remember that these lists only count one programme of each, though, otherwise the entire top ten would just be full of Coronation Street and EastEnders.

The top two of 1999 are interesting:
1 Coronation Street 07/03/1999 ITV 19.82
2 Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 07/03/1999 ITV 19.21

Two programmes on the same night! Millionaire was shown after Coronation Street, and virtually everyone stuck with the channel...

No that was 1988. Neighbours was very popular in the late 80s/early 1990s, even beating Corrie at times.

God, Neighbours topped the chart in 1990 then with 21m viewers, and got over 20m in 1989 too!

Disappeared by 1992 - where Coronation Street is the only soap in the list.

And people say ITV is total rubbish!
