Coronation Street, Heartbeat, Frost, Midsomer are ITV's gems in the schedule and bring the highest ad revenue! I don't know where this talk of axing has come from, Jez?!

ITV would be mental to axe Corrie.

Corrie is:
Arrow The highest rated show of 2003
Arrow The highest rated SOAP of 2003 (I read proof in the Culture magazine from the Times) with 6 out of the top 10 places in soap last year, the top 3 of which belong to Corrie (Maxine's murder, Richard's confession and the canal)
Arrow ITV1's most popular program. On a normal episode it draws a loyal 10-13million. At the peak of a big story, it gets anything up to 20million.

Don't forget Emmerdale, the Royal, and the Bill.

...which is why they're not going to!

Quite where Jez got the idea that Corrie was in danger of being axed is a mystery... we're more likely to discover intelligent life on another planet than for ITV to even consider axing Corrie.

I didnt say ITV were *going* to axe Corrie, all I said was that ratings are going down from what they were a year ago. I dont *think* Corrie is going to be axed but what I do think is that if ratings were to fall even lower over a period of say 5 years then it might be in danger of it as it wouldnt be the most popular show on ITV anymore (like what happened to Brookside on C4 which gradually went downhill from 1998-2003) The axing of Brookside should be a warning to all soaps, the last thing I want is for Corrie to be axed, its my fave program Very Happy

I didnt "get the idea" from anywhere, as you put it, ive just been reading various topics on other website/message boards and reporting back what other people are saying, and they are not enjoying the show as much and that they will be glad when Kieran Roberts reign as producer comes to an end. I think the fact the older characters being in the show a lot more is postive as its been dominated by the youngsters far too much recently, I think we need a nice balance between older characters like Rita, Emily, Blanche, Ken etc and the younger cast like Tracy, Sarah, Todd, Steve, Karen, Candice.

To be honest I think there should be an equal balance of old and young characters as otherwise the younger viewers that have started tuning in(teens) will switch off.

Can we please put this particlar part of the discussion to bed? Jez, please just accept that your "worst case scenario" as stated above is *so* unlikely, that its frankly silly to bring it up on a discussion board.

The type of fans of which you speak - i.e. ones who know the name of the producer, are not representative of the masses who tune in consistently, one week to the next, who are not considering switching off.

Im not the one who keeps bringing up this topic Gavin, several other people are replying and im simply adding my views. Is it because you cant handle someone disagreeing with you that you want me to "put this discussion to bed"?
I never said it was likely to be axed, read the post I made Gavin, I just said I dont want Corrie to go down the road of it getting less viewers and being in danger of being axed in year to come (im talking 5 years or so down the line)

Id have thought most people would know who the producer is of a show if they are big fans, its mostly likely casual viewers who *dont* know who the producer is, so the people who do know are those who are likely to matter. Its on the credits of every single episode who the producer is anyway, so if you actually watch the show you would have seen it enough times.

Some people just don't know when to shut up on here. That's the problem, most talk complete and utterly misinformed s-h-i-t-e.

No Jez, I can handle disagreements quite easily. You are not "adding your views" you are repeating the same one. This one actually:

I heard you. It isn't going to happen. So you "not wanting Corrie to be in danger of being axed" is therefore a redundant thought you keep throwing in. 5 years is nothing in real terms, or story terms. For example: Hayley and Roy's baby starting school? Being teased by the other children?

I could not disagree more. 99 out of 100 Corrie viewers would have no idea who the producer is. You have given no good reason to suggest that they are "casual" viewers. The large majority of its audience are regular viewers.

Sorry, but I think *I* will leave it now.

And you are also one of them. Im sorry if you find me annoying S.E but sometimes I find you annoying too but I never speak to you in this way, im entitled to my opinion and im very sorry if people disagree but thats your problem not mine.

Surely if you people are fans of a show they will know who the producer is, apart from the fact the producers name is on the credits of every single episode (as I mentioned in my previous reply) but also most people who enjoy the show as much as I do would take an interest in the show and what goes on behind the scenes etc and the producer is the person with overall control of the show.
