Current TV is getting old, tired and boring in my opinion.

We are now going through the 2nd punishment of "Fame Academy" and the totally different programme "Pop Idol" Which, to be fair some people may enjoy, but not everybody. And what oh what is the point of showing exactly the same thing on three channels? Ala BBC? Fame Academy this Saturday was on BBC One, BBC Three, and 702 (free-view) all showing EXACTLY that same thing? Why?

I sometimes think I'm getting de ja vous, after seeing the same Johnathan Creek episode 2 or 3 times, and re runs of "The Good Life, Thunderbirds, Captain Red, The Science Shack, Porridge, Open All Hours" etc

Why do we hardly ever see anything "new" anymore, with the exception of some programmes such as "Six Feet Under, Spooks, 24" Most of todays TV is boring. Gone are the times when you could sit in on a saturday and watch one channel and be entertained not needing to flick through channels to find something interesting.

ITV1 are now showing the whole 007 series... again... for the third time I believe. Why not buy some new un-shown films? Why is it most TV Chan's seem to think... "rite, we can't be bothered to think of anything new.. what can we re-hash and do again?" Big Brother, I'm A Celeb Get Me Out Of Here.

Even the news is boring, there is no more "quirky" stuff like Mrs Bloggs cat saved the days its all boring War, Death, War, War, Court, War. Is it just me? Do people agree or am I going slowly mad, I don't really watch TV anymore theres nothing new. Might have to quite the forum, I suppose watching TVs a requirement isn't it Very Happy

There's certainly 'idea fatigue' on the main channels...

That's what you get for replacing creatives with accountants and replacing a tightly regulated industry with a deregulated one.

I think the introduction of multi-channel TV is slowly killing off the main channels. Although Channel 4 and five are the channels with the most original programmes IMO, I mean - Terry and Gaby - who'd have thought!?

Sorry, I just couldn't stand the improper use of "to" in the thread title.

But I agree ... there's a definite creative famine going on, because everything is decided by committee.

TV EXEC 1: "I had this weird dream the other night."

TV EXEC 2: "Really? What about?"

TV EXEC 1: "I was on this island with my girlfriend, and some beautiful girl came along and something else weird happened, and then I was in the supermarket."

And thus, Fox's Temptation Island was born. TV exectutives are given too much leeway, and they operate essentially in a vacuum. They're self-important egocentric arseholes that love to see their work on television, and are incapable of viewing programmes as regular average people would. I know, I used to work for one.
