Very sad news indeed. One of the great all-round sports broadcasters, and an instantly recognisable, iconic voice. One of the real Match of the Day stalwarts over the years, and also one of the few people to have presented Grandstand, Match of the Day and Sportsnight at one time or another. An astonishing career spanning 40 years - including every Winter and Summer Olympics since 1972. And he put his voice to many a video game over the years.

Always energetic and entertaining, you could hear his passion for sport in his commentaries.

A great loss to the industry.

Wondered where he was on the DoI final last night. RIP Tony.

No mention on the www.itv.com/ice website though!
This has now been remedied. From the Twitter feed:

It's with great sadness we hear of the passing away of Tony Gubba. He will be sorely missed, our thoughts are with his family at this time.
