Some poor video used on the NC this afternoon, 4:3 material showing Gubba, who was invaraibly excellent at his craft, shown in 16:9 stretch vision. Unfortunate even if hurriedly put together in the circumstances.

Wondered where he was on the DoI final last night. RIP Tony.

No mention on the www.itv.com/ice website though!

Very sad news indeed. One of the great all-round sports broadcasters, and an instantly recognisable, iconic voice. One of the real Match of the Day stalwarts over the years, and also one of the few people to have presented Grandstand, Match of the Day and Sportsnight at one time or another. An astonishing career spanning 40 years - including every Winter and Summer Olympics since 1972. And he put his voice to many a video game over the years.

Always energetic and entertaining, you could hear his passion for sport in his commentaries.

A great loss to the industry.

I'm guessing a 70's black & white telerecording for that brief clip on the BBC Six just?

R.I.P Tony Gubba. One of Sports broadcasting's great commentators in my eyes.
