No no and no again. There's no excuse ever for dumbing down for the sake of ratings. There's a hundred Sky channels stuffed to bursting with crap for the great unwashed to watch, but very little higher-brow programming left.


I don't think there are any excuses for the BBC to "dumb down" its current affairs. Given that it is not a 'commericial' channel, it shouldn't need to worry about chasing ratings.

ITV are equally capable of producing high-quality current affairs programmes if they pull their fingers out; I think "Widdy Handbags the Hoodies" pair of documentaries for Tonight demonstrate what ITV can do if they want to Cool
