Sorry to start another thread but It will liven up the forum. I think it is terrible that the BBC have axed Tomorrow's World. True the ratings were falling but the BBC has given up on this programme too soon.

I don't know about giving up on it too soon, TW hasn't been the same for a fair few years now.

That said, I still find it very interesting and it still has a definate audience. I think the possibility of moving it to BBC2 should have been considered.

It looks to me like another case of Lorraine clearing out the schedules in the interests of making her mark. How many programmes now have fallen by the wayside because of her?

What's going to replace it, that's what I'm worried about!!

Will it be of any intellectual value?

It's not being axed completely. It will return for one-off editions rather than a series.

It's still a bit of a blow, though. I was reading mediaguardian about how the BBC had watered it down, and it's all a bit sad really. I can remember it fondly in the eighties and it was must see friday night telly! how things have changed!

I thought the new style with Adam Hart-Davies was good the couple of times I saw it - a return to the decent 80s/earl 90s programmes with Judith Hann et al. It was on a little early for me though - 7.30pm would be better really.

I would have thought they would have learnt that announcing axeing of long-running TV programmes was not a good idea after bringing back Top Gear after a few months (albeit in a different format)

Don't forget the number of good idents which have fallen by the wayside because of her - around 60 of them, to be exact. As I said before the Forum went down, BBC1's rise in popularity is by default rather than anything she's done - people are disillusioned with ITV. Mind you, BBC1 isn't doing much better apart from in some genres. New Year should mean new broom! Get that woman out.

The demise of On The Record will also sadly mean the end of regional BBC2 idents.

I've never been a big fan of TW, it could've done with a more varied mixture of things within the programme. Week in week out it seemed to be looking at obscure gadgets and talking about how cures had been found for whatnot, and then "but you won't see these on the shelf for another 100 years", "it'll take decades for this cure to work it's way into hospitals". Seemed a bit hammed up for my liking.

Bar the odd special to somewhere in the world, it was boring in the last few months of it, it kinda went totally downhill when they got a robotic presenter too. Shocked

Whenever I always watched TW, it was always 'by accident' or because it was on in the background. I never made a special attempt to make sure I watched it, but if it was on I'd find it very interesting! It's a shame if it's going to be axed, it really is.

That's the same with me. I never made a habit of watching it, but when I did watch it, I enjoyed it. It is a real shame that it is being axed.

It is really good, but it was even better a few years ago when Jon (sp?) Snow and Phillepa (sp?) Forester were presenting. I used to watch it every week, but then they started getting in new presenters nearly every week! Well, that's how it seemed to me! It had gone down, but I really enjoy the TW LiveLab they do, (or something like that) where it is a live show where you can participate in that. I hope they still do that.
Joel.
