Maggie Philbin was always my favorite TW presenter. Alongside Howard Stableford, Judith Hann and Kieren someone or other.

Where did TW normally air in the schedules?

Yes, it moved around but always started after 19:00hrs, and finished before 21:00hrs, normally
after TOTP, but I do recall a period where TW was on first ?
Neither shows were fixed at 30 mins, sometimes a little shorter, and often 40 mins.

TW and TOTP were 'Thursday Night Viewing' for millions. Happy days !

Neither shows were fixed at 30 mins, sometimes a little shorter, and often 40 mins.

In the 70s and early 80s TW was on before TOTP, with TW usually running to 25 minutes (typically 6.55-7.20) and TOTP usually 30-40 minutes (eg 7.20-8.00), until September 1985 when EastEnders became fixed at 7.30, so TOTP was fixed for 30 minutes at 7.00 and TW for 30 minutes at 8.00. However there was a time in the late 80s when TW was moved to Tuesdays for a while, and then in the 90s it was moved to Wednesdays, then Fridays, then finally back to Wednesdays.

WHSmith was an early investor in cable TV. It was behind both ScreenSport and Lifestyle (although not the sole owner). They also backed The Arts Channel.

Wasn't there an era where Tomorrows World was before Doctor Who on a Thursday as well?

Just checked a couple of Radio Times from January and February 1984, and in both Doctor Who is on at 6.40 and Tomorrow's World at 7.05.

The final illustration in that clip may not have been quite accurate. ISTR that BSB used either Left or Right-hand (only one - the squarial or LNB didn't have to switch) circular polarisation (as all European DBS band satellites like TDF, TV Sat and Olympus did as well) whilst Astra 1 used Horizontal or Vertical linear polarisation. I'm not sure that a single LNB on a motorised dish would have worked that well for both?

I had a BSB squarial and minidish with a couple of receivers (Philips, Tandberg and Ferguson) which I got dirt cheap and re-programmed the EPROMS to run them in D2MAC for TV Sat and TDF to get me French and German TV (Great watching Albertville and Barcelona Olympics in 16:9 from the HD-MAC broadcasts 20 years ago!) ISTR that I had to dismantle the squarial or LNB to alter the polarisation!
