I just happened to catch the very back end of Poirot on ITV1 earlier today, and noticed this old episode has been given a Darling Buds of May style credit treatment - black background with the credits just cycling past (the credits used to look lovely with the customised Poirot graphics) and also included the "(c) 2006 London Weekend Television" very quickly before flashing to the standard "ITV Productions" slide.
Why does ITV feel the need to lie about these things, when the episode clearly wasn't made in 2006 and I don't think anyone watching would be under that illussion either. It seems like an odd thing to do - especially as it was correctly credited to LWT. If you're going to change it surely you'd just credit it as "ITV".
they do the same thing with episodes of frost, they all seem to have 2002 as the year designator when they are over ten years old. who are they trying to fool
then again UK advertising expect will have us believe our grandfathers ate werthers originals when they were only imported to this country in 1998
They did something strange with Morse that they have been showing on ITV1 it was (c)Carlton Television 1988 but they did not start on ITV untill 1993, the 1st time round it would have said Central 1988
it's the same with episodes of A Touch Of Frost... there was one episode i saw a couple of weeks ago where not only did it look old, but all the cars i spotted driving around were on d, e, f, & g plates - i guess this episode was made in the early 1990's, but the copyright on the caption was 2006.
i thought as far as using the copyright symbol was concerned, you were supposed to put the year it was first broadcast/published etc (like the bbc does most of the time?)

Carlton seem to have started this off - or were one of the first ITV companies to cover up the Central production slides. Crossroads on UK Gold for a short while was credited as being a Carlton Production (1987) and also Auf Wiedersehen Pet series 1 and 2 are "Carlton" productions according to the end cap, when they were not.
I am aware that in the past ITV have reproduced end credits to match with the generic style running at the time. (I remember seeing a few repeats of shows originally from the Hearts Era, where the credits had been replaced with the 2002 design). Obviously that is to allow for current ECPs.
However, to replace them with this kind of design doesn't really make sense.
Of course, one of the other issues is that end credits use to be so much longer, and the terrestrial channels don't want that anymore. The credits to the episodes of 'All Creatures Great And Small' currently showing on UKTV Gold run for over a minute!
And Challenge. I went to someone's house yesterday who had sky digital and i managed to catch two Carlton endcaps, the old Catchphrase titles and the Supermarket Sweep titles!
