Yes, that was Saturday Banana, a Southern programme I'd love to see an episode of. I got sent a video full of title sequences from the show once, it doesn't half look strange!

Southern's 'Saturday Banana' was named as the result of a typo. Should have been called the 'Saturday Bonanza' but they left it as banana

That's a TV Fact !

Talking about Saturday morning ITV shows, I've just found a great clip of the opening titles and introduction to GHOST TRAIN on YouTube!!!

I really enjoyed this and haven't seen this show for ages (obviously!) and have tried to find the theme music and titles before on the internet without success.

But here it is - complete with TV-AM eggcups and CITV corporate ident! Classic stuff!!!

Other fact: My dad played on the Saturday Banana with his band.

You never know when you might also need that particular piece of knowledge.

Talking of Saturday Morning ITV shows, since TISWAS how about...... (ones I can remember whie I was growing up in Granadaland)

Gimme 5
Ghost Train - already mentioned
What's Up Doc?
Motormouth - possibly the best general magazine style show ever made by ITV
No.73/7T3 - best general entertainment magazine show
Get Fresh
SM:TV Live!/SMTV
Ministry Of Mayhem/MOM
Saturday Showdown

I'm sure I've missed a couple!!! But there was also a 3/4 year weird spot between Gimme 5 and SM:TV Live! where the mornings were presented by a animated dragon (exact same on the is shown on Pop TV on satellite!)

We at Tiswas Online are researching every single episode of Tiswas, which region showed it and who was on it. The episode guide on the website is the most comprehensive ever attempted on the show: http://www.tiswasonline.com/episode_guide.php

For regional variations, you need to look at this thread on our forum:
http://www.tiswasonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=6460&highlight=regional&sid=1dd36fc6a789934ca5fa8cac75f77c5e#6460
(probably need to cut and paste that link)

It's all very much a work in progress and contains information from many sources:
Arrow The official ATV archives,
Arrow Our own video copies (many more than exist in the archive - although ITV are fully aware of this and we work with them quite often).
Arrow Scans of *all* the original TV Times listings
Arrow A fan who meticulously noted every item in almost every show of the original run.
...and much more...

We're working closely with the production team of the new show on many aspects...

One last thing, you may not always find Tiswas listed by that name, it's original listed was "Today Is Saturday or The Tis-Was Show", the titles showed "Today Is Saturday" followed by the original chunky-lettered Tiswas logo. The first programme aired on ATV on 5th January 1974 (having been piloted in a different form by Peter Tomlinson during the previous summer).

Moving on to 30 April 1977 and I find that HTV has something called TISWAS but it's billed in a 30 minute slot and not at the same time as the ATV show, perhaps opting in for part of it? .

That's correct. HTV ran a Saturday morning strand called Ten on Saturday - basically, 10 programmes linked by the continuity announcer wearing a "Ten on Saturday" badge (Michael St John was always my favourite, though I recall Geoff Searle and Sally Alford (?) hosting as well).
They opted-in to Tiswas for 30 mins, and eventually ditched Ten on Saturday and showed the whole thing (as they'd opt-out at some bizarre times, sometimes during an item, so they could keep to their schedule).

I remember those immortal words: And there's where we have to leave TISWAS for today.
