As said in the Swap Shop topic I certainly remember TISWAS being on Granada long before 1979. I used to "swap" my allegiance each week as I used to like both shows. I certainly remember it being on Granada before my sister was born, and that was in 1977!!!!
The ITV version was originally going to be called "Big Daddy's Saturday Show" but he dropped out a few days before the first show went to transmission. This meant that the show had to be renamed The Saturday Show and was presented by completley different.
According to Wikipedia, it was never known why Big Daddy dropped out, and why he dropped out so close to transmission.
Right, here's a vague guide based on some of the listings in the Times Archive, though sometimes the search engine is a little dodgy, and I've just taken pot shots at dates... other times it's hard to find because some regions are listed "as ATV except..." and others "as London except..."
The first reference I find to TISWAS was on ATV on 20 March 1974.
Moving on to 30 April 1977 and I find that HTV has something called TISWAS but it's billed in a 30 minute slot and not at the same time as the ATV show, perhaps opting in for part of it? Border are showing TISWAS from ATV.
28 May 1977 and Granada is showing TISWAS from ATV.
By 24 September 1977 it is listed in the Anglia and Scottish regions.
By 29 October 1977 it is listed in the Southern region. Granada aren't showing it at this time.
Early 1978 and Granada are showing it again. Southern aren't.
October 1978 and it's ONLY on ATV but HTV is taking a bit of it.
November 1979 and it's on London Weekend. It's not on Granada, Scottish, Channel or Ulster. It IS ON in Grampian; Anglia's showing Saturday Banana.
Then we have a gap because The Times Archive only lists London region.
05 September 1981and a new series of TISWAS starts, it's on everywhere except Channel, where broadcasting doesn't start until 12.30 and World of Sport.
05 Dec 1981 and it's as you were except Granada are showing two films instead of TISWAS.
10 Jan 1982 - the new TSW isn't showing TISWAS, the new TVS has Number 73. Yorkshire has a movie.
03 Apr 1982 - Yorkshire's showing a movie, TSW The Saturday Show.
And that's the last time I find it. If you weren't confused before, you probably are now.
