Not two TV channels as such but when Channel 4 showed Derek Jarman’s film “Blue” in 1993 the audio was simulcast on BBC Radio 3.

Well that's dumb. Why didn't S4C show sport live if Channel 4 was doing so? It's one thing moving around pre-recorded programmes, but delaying live sport? Seems to me the Welsh had an inferior service until digital came along.

Primetime S4C usually screened Welsh language programming, and C4 stuff was either timeshifted to daytime or late evening, or dropped altogether. They never screened C4 News at 7pm, though I think the lunchtime show was shown ?

Wasn't Brookside shown at 22:30 ?

English facing aerials in South and North Wales that were used since 1970 to avoid Welsh lang progs on BBC 1/2/HTV, carried on being used from Nov 82 for C4, when S4C took over those duties !

The original slot for Brookie on S4C was 6pm, then 5pm, but it was most frequently shown at 10pm, and I know a lot of people where we lived would use the S4C screening very much like 'stEnders on BBC3, as a convenient catch-up if they'd missed it.

The 10pm airing of Brookside rated very well for S4C as I recall, and there was also a weekend teatime omnibus although I can't remember if it was a Saturday or Sunday.

Well C4 had the omnibus at 5.05pm on Saturdays - can't recall if S4C showed it then.

I seem to remember S4C had the omnibus at the same time at C4 on Saturday teatime for many years but towards the end maybe around 2000ish it was on a Sunday afternoon.

At that time C4 was just showing Schools programmes in the morning so I guess no detriment to them in pointing people to BBC1.

Am I right in remembering that the COSTA regulations (or the predecessor) treated adverts for other TV channels as not counting towards the advertising quota?

In terms of cross promotion rather than paid ads, weren't there straps on many channels pointing to Sky News when Diana died and possibly during 9/11?

Yes. Someone I knew from Liverpool used to use S4C as a handy C4 timeshift service, rather than wearing out his VCR.

Yes I have seen a recording on YouTube of someone flicking through channels for one of them and seeing the captions.

I'm pretty sure it was done the morning that Diana died*, though they weren't all to Sky News, it depended what their ownership and affiliations were. Turner channels pointed to CNN, those that were part of Sky Multichannels pointed to Sky News. I'm pretty sure I remember the plan for UK Gold/UK Living was to point to the BBC.

*of course a lot of channels weren't on air when the news 'broke'
