Finally, Sky News' Joey Jones on BBC News to the confusion of Huw Edwards.

That happened because BBC News were taking a pooled video shot from Sky News, they went to a split screen so the channel could show Huw and the other event (I believe being a David Cameron speech) but didn't cut away quick enough when Sky News' Joey Jones was put on camera (as it moved around), thus you got the above event. In fact Huw and Joey Jones didn't actually say anything to each other as they weren't audio linked.

I saw it happen live and remember it well, it did make me laugh and I thought at the time 'That'll be brought up on TV Forum over the coming years'. It was mentioned in the News threads on here in the Newsroom as Sky News were due to relaunch over the coming days and the pics above were posted as 'This maybe the new look Sky News...Wink'.

Wasn't there mocked up Sky News / CNN footage in one or two of those hyperreality docudramas the BBC ran a few years ago, like "The Day The UK Stopped" etc?

Also, Sky 1's Dream Team featured mocked up / specially recorded Sky Sports News footage.

Another example is a live insert of CBS' Late Late Show on FOX's Family Guy in the episode "We Love You Conrad"

http://familyguydirect.com/watch.php?episode=714 (9:35 in. Ignore Jimmy Fallon and Jay Leno, they're crap.)

It's for this reason that some sat trucks will make use of two transmission paths (and two cameras) to provide a pooled shot for ITN/Sky, and a second feed for cutaways and with the BBC presenter.

I remember back in the 90s that BBC 1 Northern Ireland and UTV hooked-up briefly during a Children in Need on BBC 1 NI and The Kelly Show on UTV.

There have also been a few occasions when BBC 1 NI has been on BBC 2 NI, and BBC 2 NI on BBC 1 NI... but that wasn't meant to happen.

How many channel launches were simulcast with other channels?

BBC 4 comes to mind. http://www.tvwhirl.co.uk/bbc4.html

I think BBC 3 did too.

I don't remember that being the case, certainly FilmFour's launch night was on Channel 4 up until about midnight or so.

I'm pretty sure they showed some of it... it's scarily long ago though

I'm afraid it wasn't, most likely because the first two programmes were Friends and ER which they'd spent loads of money on the exclusive rights for. But on the same night C4 showed the first episode of The West Wing.

Film Four was simulcast, on a Sunday night in November 1998, although it wasn't a direct simulcast as the films had adverts on Channel Four but not on Film Four. And Johnny Vaughan presented the opening night of both that and BBC3.

Of course, the opening on ITV4 was simulcast on Men and Motors because they couldn't get it on Sky until a week later.
