I'd have to agree with that CashinDavid. Although i like EastEnders, Hollyoaks by far was the best soap of 2006, and this year has been brill so far too.

If i was to send of Ideas to the top dogs of EE do you think they would reply, or listen?

I doubt any soap would to be honest

As much as I don't like EE much I don't think it should be axed, if they axe EE they might as well axe Corrie as well (Which I don't want).

What brings you to that conclusion dbl?

On a separate note, it is interesting to observe that the "I would never watch soaps, I'd rather die-- all soaps should be scrapped" brigade usually assume that all soaps are of the same quality. Some soaps are far better than others!! (I leave you all to decide which Wink )

If a soap on a commercial channel is poor, it will rate poorly-- so it will be scrapped. EE has the luxury of being supported by the licence (no 's' in the noun unless you're American) fee, so is unlikely to be scrapped unless the ratings for it get really low I should imagine.

It puzzles me how a badly-acted, badly-written, dour, charm/humour-free (IMO) soap rates so highly Laughing . Although the average nine million viewing figure, is roughly the same number as the population of the London urban area Wink

Alot of it is also due to ITV basically giving them a free pass.

If they ever put anything of substance against EastEnders (like Emmerdale - if that can be called "of substance") EastEnders ratings take a massive hit, though I think ironically EastEnders is probably filling it's public service duties by boosting the ratings of regional programmes and Tonight on ITV! Quite a few people I know who were once big EE fans now opt to watch ITV's latest canal based programme instead!

Oh that, looking back at it, it seems a bit OTT - a gay couple running the Vic?
