Yeah, I'd love to get rid of Eastenders, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale. However, despite the fact that they're badly written and badly acted 9m+ idiots lap them up. Some things are just inexplicable.

I don't know if scrapping it is a good idea but a good revamp or a major investment in new storylines would be a good idea.
I used to watch it up until two or three years ago but ( and I know it sounds a cliche ) just found it too depressing. I loved Brookside, but it was the right time ( if not too late ) to bring that to an end.
Maybe EastEnders ( like Brookside towards the end ) has too many fragmented characters. IMO reducing the episodes could bring the quality back - it can't be easy thinking up new storylines. I know they are scarce in real life, but a few solid new whole families wouldn't do any harm. And I always think it's a bad idea bringing characters back ( Phil etc ).
If you get rid of EastEnders you might aswell scrap all the other soaps too.

I'm informing you that i think you should "Clear out" too.
It's been constantly panned by critics and viewers alike - with the BBC coming up with the same stock excuse that soaps have a natural cycle and things will pick up again. However, 4 years on they haven't!
The BBC are continuously using that quality is more important than ratings when it comes to low-rating output - so the same should apply to the high rating crap too!
EastEnders is crap and has long been crap - and the money it swallows up could be better used on at least one additional drama every week (and no, not another Holby spin-off).
Trouble is, opinions vary so much across the country and EastEnders is valued far more by Londoners than those north of Watford Junction - so it's not going anywhere yet!
