I'm sure I'd seen a clip from DP earlier in the week which showed the big desk in place, so it was unsurprising to see it at 9am this morning . . . albeit with some different masking to hide the cameras, which is spoilt by that misaligned 'screen'

Whilst TW looks ok in Studio V, I somehow prefer the dungeon atmosphere and setting they use at Millbank. Very Happy It's seems to better suit the cosy yet rather malevolent nature of the show. Cool

For our national broadcaster, that looks absolutely appalling.

Served it's purpose ok though. Anything larger would have been silly. It's not as if guests were inconvenienced. With the polls closed and counts occurring, National politicians were on call and as such a larger studio would have been superflous. All the results were being processed elsewhere, and the News Channel inserts enabled personnel shuffles to take place on the hour and half-hour. If as was the case when these local polls were called, Westminster was in session, and not usurped by the General Election, hosting at Millbank made enormous sense in the availability of Politicians to comment too.

It's not the size of the studio that's the problem...

Parliament was dissolved earlier in the week. We no longer have any MPs, and Westminster is not 'in session'. Other than Government Ministers, who retain their posts until replaced, I'm surprised that anyone else was even in Westminster to interview, as I'd have expected them to be pestering their constituents by then. "when these polls were called" is the key point you overlooked there Smile

Ugh. We know its a studio. We know there are cameras in it.
Don't go to the bother of trying to hide them to the audience, just show us the bloody cameras.
Nobody minds, nobody cares.

Yep - but a floating virtual screen (that big screen isn't there either) would look very odd without some kind of surround. It's a pity they didn't get a shot of the newsroom from quite the right angle for a slung high wide, but I don't mind it otherwise.

Plus, the feet of two studio cameras are still visible below that dire mask anyway! Rolling Eyes

There was a nice 'behind the scenes' piece about the Local Election coverage on SP today. Here it is . . . and my apologies that it's only SD, as I obviously watch my local version, which is not HD, and BBCiPlayer are being rather tardy about uploading the network version.

Here are also some caps . . . which I've put behind a spoiler tag as they might be data draining on t'mobiles . . . Razz

I've added a FHD version in addition.
