Is it really the case that This Morning haven’t beaten its rating figures since 2002? I’m guessing viewership was high then with the John Leslie controversy.

I don't think ratings were at their highest in 2002 - but the way ratings were recorded changed in that year. So 2002 is often used as the start of the modern history of ratings, as comparisons from the years before that aren't very accurate.

So This Morning are presumably celebrating their highest ratings since the current records began, not ever. It probably wasn't at its highest ever in 2002 cos the year before was the Twiggy and Colleen era when it was almost axed.

The ratings being higher for programmes is related to there being 3 lockdowns, surely - captive audience?

Yes, it was recently said that Lingo was the best rating show to air at 3pm since 2002, but in reality I expect it was the highest rating show since before that year considering 3pm used to be regional odds and sods before CITV that was hardly going to be great raters

Clearly this high rating is due to the lockdowns but if it was the opposite way round and Covid had a negative effect, I doubt the tabloids and the critics would give them a free pass, so it’s still worth ITV mentioning this.

When they say highest ratings, is it over a week, an individual rating or share? The highest rating ever was the royal wedding episode.

I think they just mean on average in 2020

If they're referring to 2020, 19 years prior would be 2001, the year Richard & Judy left. It's an accurate reflection of the fact that, despite stabilising, This Morning's ratings have never recovered from their departure.

Their highest ever episode was the royal wedding special in 2018.

Its good they are doing well but the test will be year on year next in the coming years. I can't imagine once everything returns to normal that they will keep the figures they've been getting, and I'm sure they know that too.

Yes, hopefully year on year won't be pleasant reading next year.

There were plenty of reports last week about how much better Alison and Dermot are doing compared to Ruth and Eamonn but of course the year on year comparison is meaningless at the moment. Talking of which I guess they're back next week.

Who would’ve guessed that the year more people were at home ratings would increase for daytime shows!

And clearly not hurt by having This Morning with Gethin and Kym before it and This Morning with Steph off Breakfast after it.

TBF to Morning Live, it's pretty good and it's doing well.
