Talking of ratings, This Morning at The Royal Wedding certainly paid off, with an average of 3 million viewers, peaking at 4 million. Millions more than that timeslot's average (856,000) and amusingly higher than ITV's coverage of Harry & Meghan's wedding (but for obvious reasons).

46% share compared to the year-to-date average share of 19%.

The evening highlights show had 3.4 million.

The theme tune had the potential to sound overwhelmingly naff, but I think they struck the right balance and it works.

They have such different fanbases. People either hate Ruth and Eamonn or hate Holly & Phil. Such a harsh split probably doesn't help the programme.

I'm surprised Channel 5 haven't snapped up Ruth and Eamonn for their own This Morning copycat, or a One Show-esq evening programme.

It'd be a huge mistake on Eamonn and Ruth's part to do a show that competes against either show and 5 have learnt that the hard way with Terry and Gabby, Trisha Goddard and Live from Studio Five that competing against a similar show never works. Not to mention Do the Right Thing failed miserably and that was in primetime.

I think Eamonn and Ruth have found the right balance of doing This Morning on Fridays and holidays, then doing other projects on the sideline like the Channel 5 shows, Eamonn having a daily show on Talk Radio, covering on GMB etc and Ruth does Loose Women and QVC. I can't imagine them leaving This Morning unless they decide to quit or if ITV wants a complete revamp when Holly and Phil eventually leave.

I think you're right when you say that Eamonn and Ruth have found the right balance. I like Holly and Phil and Eamonn and Ruth equally and it often depends on the mood I'm in based on who I might prefer day-to-day but the balance of H&P doing most weekdays and E&R doing Fridays and Holidays works well.

Though I don't think it will happen any time soon, I wouldn't be disappointed if Holly and Phil did Mon-Wed and Eamon and Ruth did Thu-Fri.

I think Phil and Holly have found their dream job and are unlikely to reduce their hours. Phil thrives on live telly and I believe will only quit if Holly does. Holly only accepts work that fits in with her family life and has in the past refused several high paid offers. Not many other telly jobs give you half terms, summer holidays and a long weekend. She's very comfortable at This Morning.

Of course, that's not to say the audience won't tire of them first. Anything could happen.

See, Ruth and Eamonn are clearly so much more popular, getting twice as many viewers as Phil and Holly. Wink

Someone didn't get the memo.

I think if both Phil and Holly were hosting I'm a Celeb then it would be a no brainer that Eamonn and Ruth would replace them for six weeks just as happens in the summer, but ITV very much view them as a pair now and with Ruth also doing Loose Women that is why Ruth doesn't even seem to be in the equation when it comes to standing in for Holly for an extended period, although if the rumours of Christine are true it is always possible she might not do four days a week and Ruth might take on the balance, allowing her to also contribute to Loose Women and meaning she wouldn't be giving up the Friday slot with Eamonn.

As I didn’t see any of the wedding coverage, did they have anyone doing the talking bits through the ceremony?

Was anyone from ITV News involved or was it just This Morning people?

I think if there is anything Holly might quit in the next few years, it's Celebrity Juice. I'm surprised ITV haven't found her another primetime gig since IAC is only for a year, she'd be good for a UK version of Game of Games.

I agree, the whole branding for the programme was done rather well creating the This Morning atmosphere within a royal ceremony. The set looked bespoke, the pillar was much thinner than the new TVC ones. Like has been said I imagine the sofa and table are the same that are taken to This Morning Live or were used during the summer travelling around the country.

Wonder if they'll keep the Phillip and Holly branding.
