In the earlier days of the programme, this was how they did the weather forecast:
It's not mentioned that much these days though as the presenter Fred has since been convicted of multiple accounts of child abuse:

Incidently, here's what they did for the programme's 25th... people falling in/jumping in was a bit of a trope when the map was in action. Fred never did it but one of comedy duo Trevor and Simon went in as did a streaker
Fred often stated in interviews that he never "fell in". However that's not strictly true. He was pulled in by a diver on one occasion.
Still, not the worst of his lies.
When I watched as a child I always assumed the map was in the middle of the dock, only reachable by boat, as you never saw the edge of the dock. It was mesmerising to have something seemingly floating in the middle of the water.

This morning won't be moving back to studio 8 now then. It kind of felt like everyone knew it wouldn't. Phil did say it was alleged they would move back so I got the impression he wasn't sure it would.

It was actually never planned to go back to Studio 8. The plan was to have the studio on a corner of the 3rd floor of the new building. The studio 8 building is owned by Coin Street and the front part is listed so won't be demolished. TM could always go back there. That fake view looks dreadful. If they're never going back then no reason to keep it.

I see. So they must have meant they'd be back on the Southbank in general rather than specifically studio 8.
Bit of a shame. Maybe they'll go back to studio 8 afterall if the option is still open.

The view was fine over the summer, but now they're using an autumn view it looks very fake.
Studio 8 won't be demolished but much of TM's production was based in the main building so they can't move back without that remaining intact. Not only that but it would be costly to split This Morning from the rest of ITV Daytime as they now have pooled resources.
I took Phil & Holly's vagueness about returning to the South Bank was more a result of them not expecting to still be with the show in five years time, rather than because they had any insider info.

I have a feeling they will be a long time in Television Centre at this rate.
