Whether it's "still the BBC Television Centre" to you is one thing, but actually - it isn't.

I got the impression that to most who worked there it was just The Television Centre.

No - it was variously TV Centre, TC, TVC, Telly Centre, 'The Centre' etc. Not sure many people who worked there called it 'The Television Centre' - it used not to have a definite article other than when described as 'The Centre' (which was usually what OBs called it in my experience)

Quote:

If they were claiming it as "ITV Television Centre" there may be some room for complaint, but that name is already in use in Leeds.

Although there are lots of BBC Broadcasting Houses around the country, I guess.

Yes - there are quite a few BBC Broadcasting Houses, a couple of New Broadcasting Houses and some BBC Broadcast Centres AIUI.

TLS tried to call their Southbank Studios 'The London Television Centre' but it never really stuck within the industry. They were always 'TLS' or 'LWT'.

Officially, the building is called "London Television Centre"

The London Studios is the name of the company which operated from there.

Yes - but nobody ever called it that in the industry. If you worked in studio production and were working in a studio you referred to the building as " TLS" (or LWT before that)

If someone was working in an office on a production, they'd simply say "I'm working on a show at ITV" or "LWT" and then clarify with Southbank if needed. I don't know a single producer, director, camera op, sound sup or LD who ever used 'London Television Centre' to describe the place in normal conversation.

I'd be surprised if they mention Fred at all. He wasn't a huge part of the shows history, it just means they won't be able to show the clip of the naked streaker.

Recent history.
In the early days out on the map in the dock, he gained an audience and as security guards were eventually positioned either side of the main studio windows to stop people, standing in front of them and looking in - so, for a time, that segment was the only real regular part of the show you could actually go and stand around and watch, without being moved along.

Plus - I'd be curious to see how many times Fred did the weather, as opposed to Richard & Judy presenting indivdual shows. Fred did 5 days per week, and seemed to do the segment even where R & J were off on a weeks break. So he could have ended up being seen on more editions than R & J - so to say he was insiginficant, is a rather sweeping 'what we know now' generalisation*. From day one until the early part of the London presentation era, he was part of the shows history.

*= with all respect to his victims, who couldn't bear to see the sight of him leaping around and being all jolly, hoping the truth would eventually be known

I haven't seen any for a while.

Maybe I'm extrapolating Noel Edmonds and various continuity announcers ("from everybody here at the Television Centre in London, goodnight. Goodnight.") to a much wider usage.

Is there another New Broadcasting House now Manchester Oxford Road is gone?

I think they tend to use Broadcasting Centre for a new facility replacing a Broadcasting House now, Leeds and I think Newcastle are in that category.

They're getting a special BAFTA!

Quote:
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) will honour This Morning with a Tribute event and a Special Award next month. The news was revealed live on air by presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on today’s programme.

The honour will be given to This Morning, ITV’s long-running British daytime TV programme that turns 30 this year, in recognition of the continuing success of its creative and innovative approach to daytime television production; of its popular appeal among the British TV-viewing public; and for it launching the careers of many of those working in the factual entertainment genre today. It is also being given in recognition of programme’s contribution to the development of the television production hub in the north west when it was produced at its original home at the Granada Studio on Albert Dock, Liverpool.

Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan will be guest speakers at the Tribute at BAFTA on Monday 1 October where they will share insights from This Morning in front of an audience of peers, industry and public, including cast and crew from the show. The Tribute event will celebrate the history of the programme with contributions from talent involved with the show over the past 30 years, archive clips, special video interviews and, finally, the presentation of the Special Award. The event will be filmed and made available on BAFTA’s website as part of the charity’s commitment to educating and inspiring new generations of practitioners, and celebrating the very best in our creative industry.

Jane Beacon and Clare Ely, Heads of ITV Daytime, said: "It is a huge honour for This Morning to receive this special BAFTA award during its 30th year, and we feel immensely proud of the whole team for this well-deserved recognition within the industry."

Krishnendu Majumdar, Chair of BAFTA’s Television Committee said: “For 30 years, the talent, innovation and boldness of This Morning has made it an exceptional contribution to television. BAFTA is delighted to be recognising the programme’s achievements at a special tribute event and wish it every continued success”

This Morning is ITV’s live, two-hour show that launched on 3 October 1988 from Albert Dock in Liverpool. It was first hosted by husband and wife team Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan to deliver a mix of topical news, showbiz and lifestyle content.

Currently presented by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby (Monday-Thursday) and Eamonn Holmes OBE and Ruth Langsford (Friday), the show has grown a loyal following, winning multiple awards and broken boundaries for British television – for instance, performing live medical checks. It continues to deliver ground-breaking campaigns and exclusive interviews into its third decade, making it the longest running daytime programme for the channel and propelling it as a national institution for British television and its audience.

The programme currently broadcasts from Studio 3 at Television Centre, having moved from The London Studios on Southbank in early 2018. It is edited by Martin Frizell with Emma Gormley as Executive Producer and Managing Director for ITV Studios Daytime.

Nope, the new titles minus ‘with Phillip and Holly’. A shame that they can’t use the summer titles on Friday’s with the end summer shot amended to either Eamonn & Ruth walking to the studio or one of the new adapted outside shots of TVC.

Definately nowhere near as polished as the previous version.

Yeah, it’s definitely as though they liked whoever produced the 2015 version and wanted to do their own. Worth it though for that lovely drone shot of TVC. The entrance was pure Going Live/L&K/Blue Peter!

Phil’s slightly less ambushed in this version of the selfie too Laughing

On the close up of the “Television Centre” wall, is that what’s left of the old BBC logo in the top left corner?

The BBC logo was taken down in 2014, with one of the letters smashing to ground into pieces. Staff said it was the ghost of the building.
